Hello everyone.. I have been reading through numerous posts and I have not found anything that can help me with a problem I am having with my HV30 in Vegas 8 Pro. I have two questions..
1. What is the trick to deinterlacing footage shot in 60i in Vegas 8 Pro? I have tried everything. I know it is supposed to be upper field first and interpolate for high movement, blend fields for other. But nothing works. For some reason, when I put it on best FULL preview, it does not look interlaced at all. But when I begin rendering and after, the final render is showing interlacing. Oh yeah, this is for viewing on a computer not TV or DVD.. I realize that the TV or DVD playe would most likely deinterlace the footage automatically.. but I am wondering about doing it so that it can be viewed on the computer correctly. 2. Why is it that no matter what mode I shoot in, 24p, 30p, or 60i, the video capture .M2T file always shows interlaced? Even on my 24p and 30p footage it SAYS interlaced but when I load the project as progressive with no deinterlacing, it is progressive. I was just wondering I thought a program like Vegas 8 Pro could tell the difference. As far as the interlacing issue, I have been told by a few professionals not to even worry about shooting in 60i just to shoot everything in 30p or 24p. Thanks for any help! Trea |

As a slight correction, DVD players and TVs do not deinterlace on the fly. The TV has an interlaced mode where it only displays the alternate lines so you don't actually see that they're missing. NLEs don't scan the footage to see if it's interlaced or progressive, they just look at the metadata attached to the video. Since it's a 60i stream, Vegas reads it as interlaced. Your 24p footage is a mix of progressive and interlaced before you remove the pulldowns, and your 30p footage really is all progressive. Just a function of how the camera records. If Vegas scanned the footage to figure out what it was, it would take up way too much time.

Please post to the proper subforum. Nopt sure what you've read so far, but you apparently missed the fact that all video captured by the HV is in a 60i container. It doesn't become something else until you process it as such. I suggest you spend some more time reading. Welcome to the forum.

[quote=iThinkergoiMac;220907]Well, I don't know about Vegas, but in Final Cut I just run a deinterlace filter on the interlaced footage. If Vegas works anything like FCP, it may be reinterlacing if you have your sequence set as interlaced.

Thats what I meant. I do not think Vegas has a deinterlace filter like you were talking about but I will check. |

1. Follow my vegas vimeo/youtube exporting guide and it will be deinterlaced. It's easy to find.
2. All modes in these cameras are saved in an interelaced stream. |
