Rail and Rod Support System (Which one?)

I've read few post about the rail and rod support system, but I'll post it again because there are new items. I was wondering what rail system to buy (good quality with low price.) I don't know what to get or if there is any other suggestions. Does anyone have experience with these products?

well...i think there inst a much difference in the mechanism of these systems BUT the quality will surely be different.

A little something different - I just got it yesterday but it is SO much more stable with my HV30 doing off tripod stuff...I'm rigging it out with my matte box and other stuff...around $150.00

The indiRAILSpro systems don't appear to come with a lens support. I emailed them about it and after 28 hours, no answer.

Not waiting. Bought the Cavision RS-15IIM(250).

And to the indiRAILSpro people, there's a lesson. You can't just have a great product. You have to market it correctly... provide all the information the customer needs. At least answer emails in a timely fashion.

the cavision doesnt come with it a lenssupport either..... just something to attach a mattebox too.

And.. oh no, the single guy running indifocus didnt answer after 28hours, how rude of that single guy. Lets hunt him down.....

The indifocusstuff is great, not just cheap, but great at the same time. Got myself both rodsupport, followfocus and mattebox from them.

It was MY email he didn't answer... and still hasn't answered. So I guess I'll decide whether that's reason to buy elsewhere or not.

And I've looked at it. With very little modification, I can certainly use it as a lens support. Easier than I can empty space on that end of two carbon fiber rods. His follow focus does look good, as does his matte box. May yet buy those.

All this when I swore up and down that I would never add anything to my hv20 except a charge on the battery and a 63 minute tape.

there's a difference between voting with your wallet and whining though. i suggest you keep doing the former and give up the latter. :-)

you made the right choice either way, the cavision rods are great. see if you can get it with the small camera plate though, that way you can change batteries without to much hassle and it's also slightly cheaper. you can also ask to get the lens support instead of the matte box mount. otherwise it does *not* come with one.

I'm leaning towards the IndiRailsPro XV sm with the shoulder mount and 24in rods. I plan on upgrading from the hv30 to the xh a1 later on, so I like the option of the detachable riser. Anyone own this and care to share your thoughts?

How is not having a quick-release plate? Not too hindering, right?

Just received the Cavision RS-15IIM (250) and I'm thinking,"How in the WORLD am I going to get everything on this even with it extended all the way out?!" I should just return it right away to B&H and get the IndiRails instead. With lens adapter, lens, mattebox, handgrips, and shouldermount, and goodness knows what else I think you're right in getting rails that are 24 inches, not 12.

There are, of course, alternatives to using a rail system. My rig will be an aluminum support using a tripod lens adapter to hand the hv30 upside down, provide a handle, and a matteblox on the front will give me the hood and filter support.

MatteBlox are about 3 times cheaper than most of the other matte box solutions out there.

celeste why the switch?

I am debating between the cavision and the indierails. it seems the indierails pro xv offers height adjustment to the camera support.

i have an hv30 with a letus mini. Im planning on using a 20mm a 50mm and an 80mm fixed lens. i was told I only need to support the camera to the adapter and that 10" rods are long enough. That the lens mount from the adapter to the lens is pretty sturdy. What are the thoughts on this?

so the cavision. Or the indierails? indierails pro or indierails pro xv? 10" or longer?

It was simply because I wanted to attach hand grips, shoulder mount, and maybe a follow focus and mattebox, so longer rails were needed and Cavision didn't have them. If I only needed 10", the Cavisions would have been fine, but from what I could tell, it *just* fits the camera and letus adapter.

Both the Cavision and IndiRAILS pro xv have height adjustment (I ended up taking off the extreme riser for my setup because I didn't need it.) but it seems to me that the IndiRAILS are a lot more adjustable.

I can't speak for the IndiRAILS pro, but I really like that the IndiRAILS proxv tripod mount attachment is separate from the attachment where the camera sits. It helps me to adjust the balance of the rig on the tripod. It also helps that Tim from IndiFocus is an awesome person to deal with.
