Default NOPI closed Drift Practice (24p)

Big Closed to public Practice for NOPI spring nationals this weekend @ e-town. Big thanks to clubloose for providing me a media pass. Tested some of my new equipment, in car charger saved my day! Finally got a sunpack 7500 tripod (the one with built in monopod) and cheap sticky pod for in car footage(not to use with hv20 of course) Outcome, I need a new head for the tripod and sticky pod doesn't really work in drift cars. I was disappointed that my raynox 6600 didn't arrive in time along with extra batteries. I shot everything in 24p in tv 48. I'll upload the vimeo version a little bit later. Please add the vid to your favorites @ streetfire!

Thank you! That was only a sneak peak, a practice for 2 day event, that will have everything, drag racing, bikini contest, burn outs, and more crazy drifting. I will probably not get to shoot from those awesome spots but I should get some decent footage. I'm really disapointed my Raynox 6600, didn't come in time along with extra betteries...

Hey man awesome footage!

I did some bikecycle filming experiments and I found out some nice things about the HV, if you go into TV mode, use Shutter Priority mode and crank it up as high as you can without seeing noise, you have less motionblur. This way the cars turn out really sharp and since you are shooting in daylight you can pull it off.

What also works really well is just shooting Interlaced 60i and then use something like JES deinterlacer to make slow it down 2 times so you get 30p at Half realtime speed. Combined with the high shutterspeed you get AWESOMELY sharp slowmo material! You can speed up, slowdown and speed up your footage without seeing artefacts werever you like!

I don't have any footage to show you yet, but it does looks awesome and since I think you'll be filming some more awesome drifting action I'd really like to see you try these things .

Way cool man! Hope my post was usefull to you.

thanks for pointers... I know what you are talking about, I did shoot my previous video in HV, TV mode in high numbers. This time around I was looking for filmish look, I think it came out awesome. I didn't get the bikini show nor drag racing, but drifting was top notch and my wide lense arrived today

So many cool shots here, but man, that last one: camera at ground level, heat shimmers rising off the track, car swinging towards camera at crazy angle and terrifying speed, so close it sprays the camera with shreds of burnt rubber as it passes. That one goes on your reel when you apply to shoot for ESPN or SPEED.
