This is more like a poll.
If you own a WA lens do you keep it on at all times?
Yes
No

How about an option for no wide angle lens at all? That way there would be more results and a new statistic.
I think if you don't own a WA lens, you are not the target group of this poll.
Not at all times chuhi69 but it is on 90% of the time and only removed on the few occasions I need a longer lens.
veg.
I don't own a wide angle for my HV20, but I only used one about 50% of the time with my previous camera.
I leave it on about 95% of the time.
Thanks for all the input so far. Enjoy the weekend everyone!![]()
95% of the time yes.. the other 5% raynox macro lens![]()
No need for wide angle when I shoot sports 90% of the time. Zoom, baby I need more zoom.......................
There is no such thing as "Idiot-Proof".........a good Idiot will get around that every time.
i shot motorsport also (rally) and i'm happy to have the WA lens

bump...im still curious
Is it something i'm going to for the most part keep attached to my camera 90% of the time? Also for a UV filter, do I put on a UV filter over the normal lense then attach the wide angle or do I need a UV filter for the wide angle itself?
I'm either going to get the Raynox 6600 or 7000, not sure which is better. I was reading another thread someone mentioned that the Canon WD lens is better whats the general consensus on these forums for the best WD lens?
Thanks

As for me, I rarely use my wide angle so I prefer to mount my filters between the main lens and the wide angle so that I can just take it out and be done with it.
Actually the best solution would be having two sets of filters, one for normal use and one for use with the wide angle. Also consider that any crap in front of the wide angle will most likely be visible.
2 questions:
1) With a WA lens attached, how do you set the HV30 down in between uses? Is it ok just to set it down with weight on the lens?
2) And do you usually keep it on in the case?

Merry Christmas to everyone.
A little earlier, with my new HV30 I was recording video of the kids opening gifts (and the dog going bonkers because of a remote control toy).
I didn't fully appreciate how badly I need a WA lens until now. I kept having to back way up just trying to get what I need in the scene. Is this a problem with most camcorders, or is the HV series worse than most in this regard.
Anyway, I'll probably get the HD6600 (but still considering the DCR-730 to save some $, but I don't think it's wide enough for what I want).
Once I put it on, I'll probably want to leave it on most of the time. I'll probably need a different bag now etc.. This whole thing wasn't an expense I was counting on (but I really like the HV30, satisfied with my choice)
Sorry, I just realized I didn't post this in the right place.

I hope someone will answer this because i would also like to know.
You can leave a WA on all of the time.
I take mine on and off because it does seem more prone to flare than any other lens I have ever owned (Raynox 6600).
I always use when my camera lens is fully zoomed out - has anyone done any tests on image quality when zooming in? I know that it could be argued that edge sharpness etc. should be improved, but the results will still not be as good as using the 'prime' camera lens. Has anyone done a direct comparison test (matching angle of view/framing etc.) to see how much quality is lost.
Personally, I would always liked to have seen the HV30 with a wider lens - Even at the expense at the telephoto end of the scale.
Used to always have it on, but the slight fisheye is too noticable on close shots and when there are staight lines in the shot (wall corners, railings) you can see them being bent by the lens, which i don't like.
so its only on when i truly need it. i.e., need to cover more into the shot.
Yeah, this is the exact same question that had been in my head. To just leave it on or leave it out and how do we store it etc. I should be receiving my Raynox 6600 lens sometime after new year, hopefully shipping dont take too long to Aus.
Also for those with the XHA-1 hood, do you leave it attached to your Raynox 6600 lens as well? THanks!
HV30, HV20, Velbon DV7000, Rode Videomic, Raynox 6600 Pro, RNG35, Steady tracker, GT Viper rod support.
As Carl Bellamy stated, with a WA you will sometimes see lens flare. For that reason I always have a hood on it.
In relation to the vertical lines being bent, I would say: look at tv; you will see growing exceptance of this. People are getting used to it.
howabout with low light? Is there more or less gain? Do ppl remove the lens for lowlight situations?
No I never remove it.
Oh yes, only once . . .
Somewhere in Cambodia, when the power went down and I needed to take some footage. I took the WA of, otherwise my Canon light would bounce against the back of the WA . . .
On only when needed. Why degrade that HD image even ever so slightly?
