    Default HV20 @ Futureshop in Canada $629

I week ago I joined this forum, as I was planning to buy a used HV10. On a limited budget, a used HV10 was the best looking camcorder I could afford. Luckily, due to some scheduling issues, we never met to finalize the sale.

Currently, Future Shop has on sale, brand new, Canon HV20 for $699.00 (Link). That is a fantastic price, down from $1,199.00 in November 2007.
Now, tomorrow night (April 13, 2008 5:00 - 9:00pm), FutureShop has their Friends and Family Sale, and the price drops another 10%. $629.00! LINK
(FYI for those that aren't up on the value of a Canadian dollar right now, it's basically on par with the U.S. $629Cnd = $615US)

So, a week ago I thought I'd be joining the forum as a minority HV10 owner, but here here I am today, the proud owner of a Canon HV20. The sales guy was very eager to land the sale, no mater how below cost it was and I picked it up this morning.

Anyhow, I'm Mike, a Canadian Vlogger (Video Blogger). Now I'm a Vlogger with a kick@ss camcorder.

    See yah in the forums,

    Mike

    Default Thanks Mike

Ran to my local Future Shop and not only got the last HV20 for $629 (which was open box & came with a half price, four year warranty) but got $300 back from the HV20 I bought there a few weeks ago. You are a gentleman and a scholar.

I picked up the open box demo unit HV20 from my futureshop a couple of weeks ago for $499.

It was missing a power adapter and component cable though, so I had to order them online.

    Just to update everyone.

I finally received my HV20 in the mail last week!!! Glad I jumped at the deal I was worried it wouldn't be in stock for a while. But it came in stock and shipped within the week of my order. $629 CDN plus $7.00 for shipping (not bad)

Love the camera. This forum is a great resource.

Hope to contribute some good info in the future.

    Cheers

I am a bit too late on this deal. I tried going to Futureshop in person (Yonge and Dundas in Toronto) and convince the manager to give it to me at the sale price. No luck. The best price he would give me was $799 plus 10 percent difference between their retail price of $899 and $799 sale price.
So the purchase would be $790.

Is there anywhere else in Toronto I can get a better price ?

    Thank you.

Yeah, I ordered a HV30 at that price last friday from mostlydigital, but I called in today and they STILL have no confirmed shipping date as they do not know when they will be receiving the cameras.

    Default hv 20 $399

    This is my first post.
This forum inspired me to purchase this camera, I currently have a sony pd 170.

Any ways, I to went into future shop, And they had the open box special. (did this before reading this post) The girl gave me the following

    HV 20 = $399
    JVC tapes = $30
    EXTRA BATTERY = $100
    4 YEAR warrant = $120

    Total = $650

She kept telling me if she bundled it i would get a good price, I didn't believe her. Was I ever wrong!!! I actually went in to pay $800 so when i walked out with all that stuff for $650, I was pretty happy!!!

where is this ? Canada or US ?

The only thing I am skeptical is the 4 year extended warranty. Thats where they make their gravy money. But then again its peace of mind so as long as you are happy.

    Future shop - Canada

Ya I dont care for the warranty or even the tapes. But the girl insisted that i purchase a package to get the price down. Or else they would have just charged me $650 for the camera alone. The way I look at it I got a free warranty, extra battery and tapes. I asked her if that was COST on the camera, she said no it was below cost and they had to dump it cause of the HV30.

Will Future shop honour this waranty?, I would have to get feedback from other members?

The camera works great!!! and I have seen no problems yet. Brevis 35 is ordered and hopefully will be here soon.

If you want to get the HV30 @ Futureshop for $1000 flat with tax.

Price match it with Vistek's price which is currently $899.99

hmm. I think when everything is said and done you got a very good deal.
In a way its a bit hard to guage because you don't know why its an "open box". Was it a demo model on display or did a customer return it. If its a demo model that's been sitting on the counter for 6 months I don't want it.
But if someone bought it, gently used and returned it then I don't really mind too much. But you shouldn't really have to worry to much. They are not going to knowingly sell you a defective one.

The part that I like the most is you got the extra battery which may come in very handy in the future.

Regarding the story of the price being lowered to $399. I think the salestaff have some leeway in price. We were buying a television from Futureshop, the lowest price they would go down was $1900, but the salesperson kept insisting on us buying extended warranty. He then worked it out on the computer to further lower the unit price to $1700 and add $200 in extended warranty. I don't know exactly what is going on but I am guessing they get a bigger cut of the pie when they manage to sell you the extended warranty.

Regarding your warranty, even though its open box you still get the full warranty of 1 year. After that I don't know how the extended warranty works. Maybe someone who bought one can explain the finer points.

    Thanks Mike.
I actually have to thank you because I used your picture receipt and managed to broker a "open box" deal for the same price.

I would like to get a brand new one but beggers cannot be choosers.

Well I'm jealous and confused about all these open box deals.

I picked one up for $699 today (it was for work and we need a camera soon, so it made sense) but there was also an open box unit. Why didn't I get it? It was going to be $650 with NO software and NO instructions, plus damaged packaging. The manager (of that department) said it would be the same price whether it was complete or not.

Oh well, $699 is still an awesome price for the (now second) best HD camcorder in the world. And I'm excited to have two at my disposal now. I definitely am going to do some real-time multi-angle expirements.

My HV30 was finally shipped on last friday...

    $842.99
Pretty much the lowest price you'll find in Canada for the next while. Mostlydigital still has 4 at the moment, so they'll ship out pretty much as soon as you check out.

    EDIT: http://www.thecamerastore.com/Produc...roductID=33150

    $839.09
    Ships out of alberta

Selling off one of my HV30's, brand new. If interested go here:

Open to serious offers and even possibly trade for something not necessarily video related.

Just an update...finally got my HV30 from mostlydigital. I ordered over a month ago...but what can you do...the price is right (for Canada at least).

Right now they have 3 left in stock, they'll ship out right away...took about a week for me (located in Ottawa...Canada Post doesn't hustle around like UPS)

    Default HV30 for $849

Future Shop still has the HV20 at $799, but for only fifty bucks more, the HV30 is on sale for $849!

For Canada that's pretty decent price from a big store! If I hadn't just got the HV20 for $699, I would be all over this.

Tonight futureshop.ca has both at $799.99. I wish I had the pocket change, or I would be there.
