I would much prefer darker colors while reading forums, as they are especially easier on the eyes at night!

I would rather have the black than silver!

LOL, it kinda hurts when I spend an hour or so in this forum and then pull up that nice bright white Google page!

White background has been by far the easiest to read IMO...hmm...can we make this a slightly darker green background?

You can get close by using the alternative style skin for the forum. To do this, click on User CP...Edit Options... Go to the bottom section (Miscellaneous options) and select "Alternative style" from the skin dropdown menu. Hope that helps.

I love the forum colour being dark, it's so easy on the eyes.

Whatever you guys decide to do, keep a dark version for us tired red eye editors out there....hahaha

When I use Adobe's apps & Edius I make sure they are set to the darkest skin setting possible. BLACK ! ahhhh it's like a eye wash for me....

I've always liked black backgrounds. I do think black background is eaier on the eyes. I did find it to be more expensive though in print design to use black backgrounds but I still like the effect it has in the design. I designed all my websites with black background and most of my T shirts that I buy are black. I like the man in black too. I also was a fan of Hopalong Cassidy and the Durango Kid.

Would you consider putting a photo of the HV30 to the right side of the Fourm header to compliment the HV20 that is placed on the left side?

I hate to be a pain but surprinted text is always at least 200% easier to read and results in much less fatigue than reversed (white on dark field).
No one on the internet but pro UI designers know that.

Well Zephyrnoid, you forrced me to go to Wikipedia but they didn't have anything on surprinted text so I'll ask you to explain what you mean. I take it your saying that the text in the posts on this forum is not surprinted?

You are aware of the differences in what makes good readability between RGB & CMYK don't you.

Maybe we need to take a poll on what folks prefer for monitor generated text - light on dark or dark on light. I even go so for as to tweak my page colors in windows from blinding default white to off white with a slight red yellow cast to it.

I am a Certified Usability Analyst. Here's a quote from a research findings.

A study by Hall, R. & Hanna, P. (2004) describes the effect of text-background color combination on readability, retention of matter and aesthetical value of the site. The following are the findings:

    • The text vs. background color affects the readibility of the text on the screen.
    • Color combinations with higher level of contrast received a hgher level of perceived readibility.
    • People believe that the black text on a white background is the most readable compared to color fonts and color backgrounds.
    • There is no effect of the color combination on the ability to retain the material
    • Color sites are generally reated as more aesthetically pleasing than black and white.
    • The black and white sites are generally perceived as less professional as compared to a color site.
    • There should be sufficient contrast between the text and background color (black text on white background is the best).
    • A site which requires a greater level of aesthetic value, the fonts and background may be colored but the contrast should be sufficient to be readable.

Remember the monochrome displays from the early days of the pc? Black background and green characters?
Then came the Macintosh with its more sophisticated GUI. And pop said Mr. Gates and copied it. And why do you think is a Word document not on a black background?

Quite readable. Although you didn't use light colored text on a dark background, you did choose not to use black on white. The brown on an off white works for me. It just doesn't show an ambience I would choose for what my site is about. I'm sure that's one of several reasons we see very few sites that are black on white. And as for as professional looking, black on white does just the opposite for me - looks unprofessional. Be proud to be a member of the human race, with many different oppinions. There's not too much black and white in our lives. Some people who don't know any better try and make their life black and white.

I was thinking of Silver/Back because the HV20 is silver & the HV30 is black,
so make most of the site black, but with Silver borders, highlights etc.
Add a splash of color with the buttons, such as reply, new post etc.
Whatever you do keep it Dark...I too hate being blinded by white pages.

Or just keep it the way it is, as it is already dark and serves it's purpose well.

    Zoooooom baby zooooooom

I'm a fan of light colours. I'm currently using the alternative light theme for the forum as dark colours mess with my eyes!

That's amazing how people perceive things differently. I'm just the opposite. Bright stuff staring me in the face, not only gives me a kind of "in my face" feeling but it is harsh on my eyes.

I'm glad to see dark or black is starting to when out in consumer products also. I just got back from Best Buy and it looks like just about all the computers or going to black cases. In my opinion they look so much more professional and better looking than the grey or the older beige cases. Of course we all know how most of us here on the forum have been glad to see Canon move to black for the HV30 & HF10.

I don't know, they might have done that as an incentive to spend the extra money for black...I saw someone's post on camcorderinfo saying that was the main reason for buying the HF10 over the 100...

CCi should make the site background black and keep the yellow borders.

All in all, I like this forum as is. It doesn't look like any other forum I use. It has its own visual identity, and I'll bet those who maintain it probably are busy enough without users defining additional work for them.
