Be careful, I have to look but I ordered the 24's BestBatt and they are big, I also ordered the next size down and they were exactly the same size. I would have ordered the 24's if I had known that. I am much happier with my sterlingtek batteries, they are smaller, probably don't last as long but they last long enough for most things and don't extend past the camera.

I need the 24's for mounting where I can't get to it easily, or when I can't get the battery off easily, (stedicam) but those batteries are BIG.

Which Sterlingtek batteries did you get? Are they flush with the eyepiece? How many mAh are they? I don't want the battery to extend past the eyepiece. Thanks.

I ordered some, I'll let you know, even if they end up being crappy batteries I lost my charger and need a new one. At that price I just hope they don't blow up in my house like some of the ones I was reading about.

The camera comes with BP-2L13 battery. That BP-2L12 has even lower capacity of BP-2L13. I highly doubted it can last for 4 hours. If you don't want the big size as BP-2L24H, you can try BP-2L14 and BP-2L18.

So i was looking into the HV30 and i read that it can use the high capacity batteries, what battery is it talking about, or can the HV30 use like the GL2 batteries or something?

The highest capacity is BP-2L24H. The Canon brand one is selling at $100 a piece. I have them for sale at $42

HV cam uses BP-2L series of battery but not the BP-900 series like the GL2 or XH-A1.

I noticed a lot of people buying chargers as well as the BP-2L14 batteries.

Is the standard charger not able to charge these?

It should, I bought a charger as I needed to be able to charge two at once overnight, and it's also more convenient to keep the camera safely stored and just charge seperately. There's also the occasional report of a bad battery exploding, it obviously would do less damage in a charger (although if your house burns down... ).

There isn't a standard charger comes with the camera. It's using the camera to charge the battery. The battery won't be charged while the cam is in use. So it's good to keep a separate wallplug charger.

There're are few batteries alternatives other than the original BP-2L13. There are BP-2L14, BP-2L18 and BP-2L24H.

    Thx Taky / gl.

I'm just about to make my purchase so just checking a last few facts - didn't realise it didn't come with a charger as standard so glad I asked.

Having multiple batteries and a separate charger means being able to charge one battery while shooting with another. The stock HV charger only charges the battery while the camera is off. Also, battery charging creates heat. I would rather that heat and electrical draw be done without going through the camera.

There's a new battery coming out that outperforms the BLP-24H.

    Its 2700mAh:

Good deal? Yes. Good quality? Probably not.

I've purchased a battery from these guys before, and was extremely happy with the product (it was a replacement for my dead pda battery).

Happy enough, in fact, to have recently purchased this exact eBay item from them. The batteries/charger haven't arrived yet, but I expect that I will receive items exactly as they are described. As spares they should be quite adequate.

I have no problem using 3rd party batteries. I have some I've bought off eBay, as well, and they work just fine. But those are from brand name companies like Sterlingtek or Digital Concepts whose products have some reputation among users and a company I can contact if a problem arises. I would never trust my expensive camera to generic products from some no-name or obscure company in Hong Kong selling on eBay. That's my opinion and I'm sticking to it.

They've been selling on eBay for a while now ... and looking at their feedbacks I don't see one negative that has to do with their products damaging any equipment (most are slow shipping/doa's or item never arrived). For $25 I'll take my chances.

In any event - I'll just agree to disagree on this one

Look at the thickness of the battery. It is even thinner than the BP-2L13 battery comes with the HV cam. That NB-2L battery is made for other Canon digital camera or digital camcorder like the ZR series camcorder. You can expect about 15-20 minutes of run time using this battery.

AFAIK, these are the batteries avaialble for HV cam,

BP-2L13 (the one comes with HV20/HV30)
    BP-2L14 1400mah
    BP-2L18 1800mah
    BP-2L24H 2400mah

You can check out photos of some of the batteries here

That's likely a generic picture. They claim 1300ma.

Thanks for the responses. I actually just went ahead and ordered a BP-2L14 from BestBatt.com. As far as battery chargers go, are there any in specific I should look at? Or rather, stay away from?
