"They arrived today but are about half the size of the original battery. They seem to work though. Do you think this might be a problem?"

Their should be no problem. They just must have a lower current rating and probably won't last as long as the original.

It's puzzling though because most after market batteries or larger than the orginal.

Great forum BTW, video is new to me, and a fun addition to still photography.
Can't say for sure but I would bet it would extend out beyond the viewfinder. I along with most folks never use the viewfinder so it doesn't matter.

I think the NB series is made for canon digital cameras or the Elura camcorders. They will work in HV20 but the charge won't last very long.

    I haven't tried it so I don't know. I bought BP-2L14 from Amazon for about $53.

You might want to invest on a charger too. I also bought this charger off ebay really cheap.

    Hello Taky,
I am looking to buy a charger.
Would you mine to share the name of your ebay seller? I cannot retrive his name on eBay.
    TIA,
    Mario

Conveniently, the BP-2L18 is exactly twice the price of the NB-2LH. While the 2L18 only has 250mAh more than the 2LH, the battery is bigger and made for the HV20 rather than still cameras (like the 2LH).

Will the 2L18 last TWICE as long as the 2LH? I'll be happy to report back on the performance of whichever one I choose...
please do i have a Hv20 and i too am looking for the best price Per Mah. as long as a battery last longer then a tape I'm indifferent as to how many batters i carry

tho i did want to ask if anyone has looked at these i found on ebay http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...MEWA:IT&ih=011
if they are quality cells they work out to be pretty cheap

    also theres this http://cgi.ebay.com/2-Battery-DUAL-C...713.m153.l1262
the battries are low but it's the charger i like 2 battery's at once is cool has any one seen a charger like this elsewhere ? or used one?

These are the cheapest batteries I've found on Ebay (and probably everywhere) - only this one HK guy was selling them for about half the price everyone else was charging when I checked: 2 for £7.50/£8 with BIN shipped (approx $16US).

Are they safe/do they last? I've no idea. They are a bit larger than the originals, come in a bluish grey, and are actually labelled 1300ma, not 1400ma as advertised. I've been draining one of them a couple of times and topping it up a few times more, so far no problems. I'm pretty sure they run at least as long as the originals, probably more, but I haven't tested it.

    Edit: Canon vs cheap:

If you just want the cheapest name brand you can get a 10 pack of TDKs for $25 at Costco or Sams has Maxell for a similar price. If you want a higher end tape. BH Photo has the Panasonic professional ones for around $3.50. Some have reported not having problems with the TDKs or Maxells so I am going to try my luck with the TDKs from Costco.

    Thumbs down Extra Battery Question

    Hello,

First off, thanks for all of the fantastic insight and feedback on this great forum.

I am now the proud owner of an HV30 There is much on my "get" list and I have am looking for opinons on spare batteries. Willing to spend about $100. They take so long to recharge that I would hate to be "out in the field" and be limited by power.

    Question:
Should I get 2 generic BP-2L24H @ $49 ea for ~270 minutes of (worst case scenario) runtime?
    OR
    6 generic BP-2L14 @ $17 ea for ~480 minutes of runtime?
    OR
    A combination of both?

Prices seem very good here, http://www.bestbatt.com/ and I have not seen any negative feedback on using "generic" batts.

Any opinions welcome, even "do not buy generic period!" Thanks in advance.

I am never usually shooting for more than an hour or two at a time so I went with two extra BP-2L14 batteries from bestbatt so I wouldn't have this big battery sticking out the back. I have gotten the self contained nuclear 10 hour batteries on some of my other camcorders and it was always overkill for me. It depends on what you are doing though.

Thanks. I had read this thread and it was really a more or less not which question (opinon). Your response was spot on. Now, I think a few BP-2L14s and a chager should suffice. Thanks.

I've had my big battery fron this dealer on eBay
    http://tinyurl.com/yvqpq2
for some time. Runs cooler than stock, lasts a very long time.
    I think I paid $7 for it.
NB: You have to charge and recharge these a few times before they reach full capacity.

Hi there. I've seen these on Ebay:

    http://cgi.ebay.de/AKKU-f-CANON-BP-2...713.m153.l1262

They are not BP-2L.. batteries, but NB-2L22 Batteries with 2200 mAh power according to the description and image.

Anyone knows if those will work with the HV20?

Thanks, but I'm a run n' gunner so that won't work for me.

Any good BP-2L24H 3rd party batteries?

I don't know how you define "good", but I have purchased a couple of the BP-2L24H batteries that I use in both my HV20 & HV30. No problems. There are plenty of places to find them. Just Google for them. I think I paid about $35 each for these big honkers.

I don't need the huge battery either and was looking at those BP-2L14's from BestBatt also. What is the depth of those? Are they flush with the eyepiece? How much mAh are they? Thanks.
