    Default Demographics - VOTE NOW!!!!

I have been a member of this forum since buying the HV20 a couple of months back. It has been extremely helpful in learning how to use the camera; without the forum I would be lost, so thanks to all.

Nevertheless, I still can’t get my arms around is the make-up of the forum, i.e., how the camera is used and the level of expertise of members.

Sometimes when reading a discussion thread I feel like the dumbest person on earth. The jargon, and the fluency of it’s use, causes me to spin around in my office chair. Then a discussion thread comes along where a new member sounds like he needs help finding the on-off switch.

Has a survey ever been taken to determine the “mix” of expertise and generate a list of preferred uses for the HV20? I’m also curious on the age range of members and distribution of age groups. I’m guessing age groups follow a normal distribution curve with the major age group 25-35 years old and that I’m an “outlier” at 62 years old.

Actually I think the make-up of this forum is more like 13-90+

You fit right in the middle there somewhere, at 62!

Im 16 and, not to sound arrogant or anything, but i like to consider myself pretty well informed in the world of videography. It has alot to do with how focused you are on it. I spend 3+ hours a day researching various subjects in video and film (2+ of those hours are spent on this forum). I guess it depends on whether or not its a hobby or a career path for the person. For me, its the latter. I like to think we have a pretty diverse experience group on this forum, because i both learn stuff and teach people stuff everyday.

Taky: "OR, Ian is a very girly looking boy... you know, before puberty hits"

    true that!
It's hard to tell from a 30x40 pixel image, anyway!

    To Ian:
hahaha , so how old IS that pic then? Don't tell me she's out of college already, and your mustache is GRAY by now?

    "Girly Boy"...now that's funny......

Hey..being the ONLY man in the house and with two daughters, a 2 year old and a 7 year old...and a wife as a therapist (I never know when I'm a husband or a client...lol)....I think the use of grecian formula might be right around the corner....

We need to plan a trip somewhere and all meet and shoot, maybe a camp out. We could share info, technique and equipment and stuff.

HV20-o-rama or something. Something easy, like 3 days...

Hmm.. since you can't change your answer on a poll I guess I have to wait until Thursday next week to answer... Then I'll be in the 30-39 bracket.

Doh! I just did the pole and I am right in the middle of the hat. So, I'm not on the edges of that particular curve.

We should have a "shoot out" and chip in for some hot models. I could teach some basic lighting techniques.

Can't we just have the "shoot out" bit with "some hot models" and forget "basic lighting techniques".

Heck, we don't even need the "shoot out." Just bring out "some hot models," that's all we really need.

Based on poll results to date I was right about being an "outlier" at 62 years old and I was a little off on overall age distribution. Being approximately 20 years older (a complete generation) than the majority of forum members could explain why my perspective is different from the majority of forum members.

To addreess my original post however, it would be useful to know the varying level of expertise of members, e.g., beginner through expert on a scale from 1 to 5, 5 being the expert.

And lastly, how many members are making a living as a movie maker/videographer, who are just hobbiest, and who aspire to make a career as a videographer and/or movie maker.

Thanks to all for your feedback
