I would totally flash my camera.
However, I am worried about the warranty. I have been thinking about this for a long time. It is only halfway through the warranty. After flashing it, if it malfunctions in the next few months then I would have to pay for my repair.
Is there any other way to do it? For example instead of paying for the repair, pay for a couple months of insurance or protection plan. It might be cheaper.

No warranty will cover bricking a camera by flashing it with an unknown firmware. It is considered tampering, which voids the warranty immediately. Anyone that does this will have to pay to have it fixed if it doesn't work.

    Thumbs up

I'm pleased to announce that Wiesel & lunaticlabs have sucessfully flashed their first modded firmwares & didn't kill their cameras. It looks like the checksum may have been figured out too.

    Way to go! .

Excellent Jolly, you guys rock . And remember, if we don't need to pay Wiesel for a repair (or you hit some other roadblock we can help with), then our donations turn back into a prize fund for the first firmware that enables full manual exposure control.

Hey _gl, thanks for the appreciation.

To be honest though as I am a HV20 owner and I write software for a living, I don't really care for the prize, I am much more interested in actually unlocking the camera!
So for whatever I contribute to this project I have no interest in getting anything back, I am just having fun doing this...

    Happy new year to everybody!

    these are great news.
whats the next step? would it just be tweaking the current firmware?

with the current knowledge, can dumping the firmware be possible?

Although this isn't related, I didn't want to make a new thread... Does anyone know any cool hacks for the Rebel XTi?

They're only in the v. early stages of figuring out the firmware. The initial mods were just changing the firmware version number, and experimenting with different bitrates. There's a lot left to figure out by trial and error before anything really cool can be done, but we've now passed the deadlock and everything's looking promising...

That's great, but if we don't need to cash for emergencies, then the prize fund stands. Think of it as a 'thank you' from all of us who'll benefit ('s only fair).
