Default Export to Tape With PE3: Does it Really Work?

I've been trying to export to tape, edited/rendered video. I am unable to make this work with the HV20 using either an mpeg or avi type file.

I get a "Transcoding" message followed by "Recording," but the camera isn't getting the data. I've looked on the Adobe help forums and there seems to be a lot of problems with this feature in PE3. In fact some say it just won't work.

If anyone has had any luck getting this to work with PE3 I'd appreciate some advice. Thanks.

    Greg,
This maybe my cobwebs writing because I have exported video clips to tape via PE3 in the past. (Now I use Vegas Pro). Assuming that you have the correctly rendered video clip on the timeline, and that in Share you have selected "To Tape", and that you have a good 1394 cable connection, and that PE3 sees your camera, and that PE3 and HV20 modes are the same, then I seem to remember that one had to use a workaround for the Canon camcorder to record. It consisted, as far as I remember, in setting the HV20 manually to record, pressing the record button and then starting the PE3 reading. It is also possible that the a second workaround was to manually set the HV20 in Record Pause mode - see the manual - and then starting the PE3 playback. If I find the manual I may be more specific next time. But, in the interest of expedience, try the above suggestions. I have many archived tapes from PE3, and later from PE4, but that was then ..
    Good luck

    Greg,
Here is the procedure I used with PE3 and PE4 to write back to tape:
" Push the function button and in the Rec Pause menu change the setting from Cancel to Execute. After this, I was able to export the movie to my camera without a problem. The camera tends to default back to the Cancel setting, so I have to do this each time I want to export a movie." It is in the Canon manual.
Look at the thread in this chapter of PC Software under "...writng back to tape." Others have succeeded with this procedure. Good luck.
