    Do they test the units?

Well, not to be a spoil-sport, but technically dropping the cam is not really the store's fault.

In the end, if you wreck your own cam, and you bring it back for an exchange
it's us that's paying for it you know.

So, if you do bring it back to the store, I'd appreciate a "thank you", for I will know that the next time I go to Circuit City to buy something there, 0.3 cents of my purchase price went to pay for note235's dropped cam!

that is why we buy retail. That little bit of insurance. Take it back. I'll pay more next time, but if I drop something, I'll take it back as well. We shop retail stores so that we can have the comfort that we can take a product back to a real live person. The little bit extra that we pay is worth it. Otherwise, just buy from a crappy internet company in the phillipenes.

There is no retail shop that will give insurance on a dropped camera unless you payed for extra insurance.
And I rather buy from a good internet shop than a crappy retailer, location has also nothing to do with it.

well i did buy it at a retail store
and seems to be working fine

is HDVsplit suppose to have loss packets?

and the normal warranty ends in 1 week

but if they check everything would work out fine since nothing is broken, the camera works and transfer fine.
    Im just scared.

Is that a consistent problem when trying to capture with HDVSplit? Try recording on another tape and capturing again. Sometimes it takes me a couple of trys when capturing from HDVSplit.

Good to hear! Assuming you won't bring it back to CC now, you've just saved me 0.3 cents!

is it normal that when shaking the cam slightly it sounds and feels like something's loose inside it? there are no errors or any problems, but the cam doesn't feel massive with something moving inside, somhow it feels broken.

It's perfectly normal. The image stabilization optics move freely when the camera is turned off.

    Default Protection plan

I bought an extended warranty with my hv20 when i bought it from Best Buy. Yeah, cost a pretty penny extra, but with crap I film like skateboarding etc, there is a good chance that I will drop it. At least it did not totally break huh!

I have a special "articles" policy that covers my video and photography equipment against loss, dropping, etc. Not that expensive.

I get packet loss in HVSplit and I never dropped my camera. Not saying it's normal. Just that I get packet loss and I never dropped my camera. I always suspected it was a side effect of being on 64 bit windows (which seems to screw up a lot of my software in very subtle ways)
