I know alot has been discussed about the technical matter of the new HV30, but i just have a simple one for anybody on here. Anybody ditching their 20 for a 30? Just curious.

Hell No!
Not going to ditch, but I am seriously considering getting an HV30. 24p us just too much of a hassle to work with, and I would really like 30p.
Nope...
As a HV20 owner purchased for less than $700, it would be quite hard trade it in to buy the HV30 for 3 to $400 dollars more.
Now if I wasn't a current HV20 owner, I would be more apted to consider the newer model even at the premium price as there is good value in the hi-def camcorder.
I have until January 30 to decide if I want to return my hv20!
So I have time on my side, but , as others say I paid 650 for it and the new one will be more ... and I use Auto-mode 100 percent of time! And it takes great video that I am 100 percent happy with.
If I need 25p ... I could do it I guess, for some project , and it would be more work, so it is there if I need it, but I don't NEED it yet.
Now if review of hv30 states it's 10 times better then hv20 and cheaper, and I see PRO review before Jan 30th, I guess I would get hv30! But I know that will NOT be the case! 99 percent sure it will have some minor improvements but nothing I would notice on my HDTV! I could be wrong and if I'm wrong, hope I hear about it before january 30th!![]()
I find no compelling reason to do so.....
Not even a consideration, the hv20 has just the quality I want... The black would be cool though...
I'm getting HV30 and use my HV20 as a playback deck.
No. My next cam will be a 3-chip prosumer one!
In PAL countries, the HV30 offer nothing new. If it offered 24P to PAL users, that would be interesting for some.
Sharp Shooter
and www.hv30.com is the result...
Another one of Mals corporate clients. Huh?
I'm still confused why 30p is supposed to be so much better than 60i. Doesn't de-interlacing with Vegas essentially give you 30p? I've got footage of 24p (after removing the pulldown) and lots of footage of 60i (de-interlaced) on my computer and can't tell that much difference except that the 24 frames per second has a slightly more cinematic look. Is there a resolution difference? I can't tell on my 22'' monitor if there is.
Wait... the HV30 no longer had a 24p mode?
hv30.com is not available but http://hv30.info is here
If you view your footage on a TV, the difference is very noticable. 60i has the kind of "home video" look and 24p has the film look.
30P will give you the kind of film look like 24p but deliver better panning and higher motion scenes. also better slow mo than 24p but not as good as 60i.
To deinterlace a footage actually will cause losing vertical resolution. Most NLE just simply duplicate the fields or interpolating the missing fields. Only if you have a software that intelligently combine the top and bottom field, then you can the best result like 30p. Besides, deinterlacing is a lengthy process.
Thanks, Taky. That clears that up. Then I guess the HV30 is a reasonable upgrade to the HV20 although I'll just eventually invest Neo HDV for the 24p pulldown.
NeoHDV also give you HD codec to edit in your NLE. that's not bad. Like in Premiere, it's a pain to edit .mpeg file.
Hah! No way! Mine has 25p, the HV30 got nothing extra to offer me.
I know it's not the same thing, but I always use 30-shutter speed to emulate the 30p look under 60i.
