Very Cool!!! And very new, can't find anyone selling it, not that I have a spare $185 laying around. Just curious how well it would work with the HV20, wide angle lens and external mic.

THere is the merlin but it costs over $800. I have tried other cheap steadycam and they aren't steady at all. I wouldn't mind buying this one for fun.

It doesn't look that steady in the video, but I don't think they took the time to balance it properly, anyways.

It looks very interesting. I would like to see a review video that's more in depth (and actual camera footage).

I agree, I like the form-factor and especially the price (I'm really a cheapskate). I'll definitely be watching this space until somebody finds more footage and/or a vendor offering them!

I just found out the product name is

Manfrotto 585 Modosteady 3-in-1 Multifunction Camcorder Stabilizer

    http://reviews.cnet.com/digital-camc...-32778990.html

It is Modosteady, not Motosteady as CNET mentioned it on the CES floor.

    Default I have it!

The modosteady with the HV20 is above satisfactory for me. Just got mine last week & it should take time before I really get used to it compared to years of handheld shooting which I got accustomed with. The steadycam mode should be practised before you get the hang of it. I find the shoulder mode quite usefull coz it helps me stabilize the shots more. My main problem now is I can't use it with my new rig which just arrived...Letus35 mini with rods. The combination which includes nikon lenses are way too much heavy for the modosteady. It will work only with just the HV20 or with a very light wide angle conversion lens. I tried it with the shoulder mode and it was quite ok. I'll be uploading some shots with the modosteady on steadycam mode if anyone would be interested.

Jimmyant, thanks for your quick review. Would love to hear more from you about modosteady performance. I'm interested in buying one too. But after reading the review from CNET, I'm not too convinced.

Dont get the modosteady, a "friend" of mine has tested it and my own homemade flystand, he couldnt tell much difference besides the price.
He said if I really wanted a modosteady-type of stabilizer, then just save up for a better one.

I'm not convinced this would work better than the DYI "steadicam" rig I'm making. Of course, it looks way cooler, and does have foldability and shoulder mount capability. . . .

    Jimmyant,

I for one am very interested to see some footage shot with this baby (I couldn't quite believe it when I went to the Manfrotto website and found a video which shows lots of happy-go-lucky young go-getters havin' big big fun with their new Modosteadies ... and as far as I can tell, not ONE CLIP from a camera actually mounted on the bloody thing!).
