Default 1440X1080 capture in FCP not 1920X1080?

when I capture from my HV20 to final cut, and then check the info for the captured video, it says it's 1440X1080 and not 1920X1080...
any Idea why that might be?

what are the optimcal capture settings for a north american hv20 with final cut pro 5.1.4

    Cheers any help appreciated.

my idea is that you did not do any kind of a search before you asked this age old question.

Default sorry did a seach and found what I was looking for...

I guess I was a little surprised to find that HDV records in 1440X1080 at a pixel aspect Ratio of 1.33... I noticed it when I did a frame export frm fcp and the res was only 1440 X 1080.... and was squished.... but the video sure looks nice from the HDMI connector straight into my Optoma HD80 HI DEF full 1080P video projector....

thanks I will do a better search next time...

    Cheers...

will have to do more reading too wrap my head around it a bit more...

Just to let you know, you can film in 1920x1080, you just need to not record it to HDV, but bypass it by using HDMI out and recording it to another source. It can be done, but isn't real practical for me. The 1440 vs 1920 issue is totally the HDV codec format. Bypass that, and you can do full HDTV.

Good luck, and don't let people's snotty answers deter you....

That I don't know. I believe it is the case, but am not 100% sure. Anyone else have an idea?

Actually, I like it when we see the "hey what's going on" vs "why don't you search the forum" interchange. It proves my theory that discussion forums formated in running blog format are USELESS for knowledge management, warehousing and retrieval.
I'm just waiting for VBulletin to start squealing before I move in to fix this mess. Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd are you listening ???

I don't understand any of the answers... I have the same problem, is it possible to record in 1440x1080 instead or is it possible to make FCP recognize the 1920

HDV standard is 1440x1080. That's just the fact, you don't have to understand it.

Like other poster indiciated, you can capture to 1920x1080 LIVE without going through tape. You will need HDMI. Please do a search or browse through the forum.
