Yeah, Almo's right. Look if you can find someone with FCS3. The Soundtrack version there has surgical noise removal:

My FCS2 also has it, but only all or nothing.
Dunno if it is built into Audition. If that is the case, you could download the trial version from Adobe.
"It is dark the other side. Very dark!" - "Oh, shut up and eat your toast!"
If you want, you can send me te audio file via Dropbox, but I doubt I'll have time to work on it before end of next week.

If the audio is almost not usable to start with, pretty much all audio software won't be able to do miracles.
1) Audacity, for free, has one of the best noise removal feature I've tested so far.
2) That's, as I said, depending on the original recording.
Draps, check out the video link I posted. The surgical noise removal in STP has helped me oftentimes already. Most of my shooting takes place in pretty non-controlled environment. That STP tool can be a life saver under such conditions.
It's not perfect, but it helps a lot.

Dirty audio is a nightmare.
In my job there's rarely a way around it.
Doc, you live in about the same environment as I do. You have your interviewee hooked up to a lav mic. Somewhere in the middle of it a rooster crows (cock fight is still a favorite past time here). Then you do it again. At the same sentence one of the feral dogs starts barking. Then those cool trucks without a muffler.....
I was recording a 2 minute tutorial the other day at home (farming homestead). Took me four hours to get somewhat clean audio.

Audacity is probably the best free software. Sony Creative just brought out some new software, SpectraLayers Pro, which I haven't yet tried. You can download the free trial here: http://www.sonycreativesoftware.com/spectralayerspro It works on PC and Mac.
Michael

STP saved my life.

Just figured out that the surgical noise removal also works in Audition 6. You just click SHIFT-D to show spectral meter, then select the wanted frequency area and lower the volume of that band. Zooming in is not as comfortable as it was in STP (at least I haven't found a way to zoom into a specific frequency range yet).
