Default Strap Mount to chest or shoulder?

Has anyone seen a DIY project to build something like this ( see attached )
that would work with a Canon HF 100?

Mounting where the green X is would be more ideal me thinks.
    Mountain biking is the intent.

    Thanks!

Your x is on a very bad location if you plan on walking around with the cam strapped to your chest. Look at your picture. The camera is in that place for a reason - closest to your body's center where it will move the least.
"It is dark the other side. Very dark!" - "Oh, shut up and eat your toast!"

Walking won't be going on. This will all be riding and that's exactly why I want the x in that location.
I'll be able to adjust angle of view more easily.

You could experiment with a different location of straps.

Under left arm to over right shoulder, maybe combined with a "sleeve" loop under right armpit over right shoulder, and some type of chest loop from under-arm to under-arm.

That might place straps somewhere in the position that you need them and perhaps provide a reasonable stability framework.

Not sure about the design shown, but some type of firm 'plate' against your shoulder/chest might help with stability. Straps hold the plate and the camera can be attached to it.

Obviously some type of strap tightening mechanism, for the chest and diagonal shoulder straps.

    ---------------------

Alternatively, get some type of waistcoat / sleeveless jacket / photographers jacket type of garment. Fasten the plate mechanism permanently to the jacket on the shoulder position and attach your camera. Take the whole jacket on or off for the camera mount.

You could probably find a way to sandwich any plate between the jacket and a new layer of fabric / canvas which could be sewn around the plate to the jacket, with just the mounting point protruding.

The helmet is the logical place to mount a camera - tried and true. You're going to get a lot of motion wherever it's mounted. One of these http://www.ebay.com/itm/11-DV-LCD-Mo...item43aebdeb38 off your helmet? It'll wobble like hell.

Even as light as it is, the HF100 won't easily lend itself to this kind of mounting. What makes the GoPro work as well as it does is it's lack of physical depth. I think that's what you should stick to using and that way you could mount it almost anywhere and stand some chance of having it work for you.

The HF 100 has enough "length" to it that simple physics will have the lens end "bobbling" through an arc of movement. If you don't like the constant wide angle view of the GoPro, I hear there are some accessories that help with that.

Thanks for the good feedback guys.

Bruce, I don't own the GoPro and just wanted to use my HF 100 and do a quick cheap diy
but I totally get the length and depth of bobble insight.

Helmet, not gonna happen there. Can't see the screen with a normal helmet mount and a magic arm would be begging for a broken neck.

How do you think the HF 100 would tolerate the vibration from being mounted to the handle bars ...
not so much with the motion issues, but possible damage from vibration?

Fear of damaging the camera was the reason I was leaning towards a body mount.

Bike mounted is the worst thing possible without super sophisticated gear that I don't know even exists.

    Yea. That's what I suspected.
