    Default My First Video

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DYtZwidXeTs

    Hey errybody,

I've been on this forum for a little while but this will be my first real posty post : ). Here is a short video I created the other day featuring a dancing friend of mine. Part music video, part camera/lighting test, all around humble beginnings. Tell me what you guys think. All criticisms and feedback are welcome.

Looks nice. Nice color and skin tone.
A higher render quality would be a good idea. 1280x720.

Thanks. Yeah I'm still trying to get the whole HD export workflow down. I'll have to take some time this weekend to work on it.

I think you did very well with quite a boring subject. Lighting and the camera moves were very creative.

Thanks playing. I know what you mean. I actually put sunglasses on him to hide any lack of emotion, totally works lol. I think I did well my first time directing. We can only go up from here : )

I don't have the slightest clue what this is about, but it is nicely executed.

This reminds me of something I've been meaning to ask for ages now. Exactly what do all the hand movements mean in youth culture today? Especially the one where you make a"V" with the index finger and the middle finger, and point them downwards.

    Serious question.

Small beginnings Dr. Benway! : P

It's not about anything cgbier, ust a short excuse for me to use my camera and experiment with lighting. Good execution was my goal, so I'll count this a success! I'm still working on the video quality though. Would you happen to know anything about progressive scan? Particularly why a video exported with progressive scan would be choppy? I'll have to get back to you about the specific settings of the file as I'm at work right now.

Krute, there's a style of dance in hip hop culture called "Tutting" (mimicking Egyptian hieroglyphs). Within that, there is a sub section called finger tutting, that's what my friend is doing in the video.

In very simple terms... Progressive scan @ 30fps has a higher resolution per frame than 60i (so if you pause at any given point the image is clearer and more defined) however the trade off is smoothness of video flow... if you shoot 60i (60 interlaced frames per second) and then de-interlace (blend or interpolate fields together) when converting down to 30p (30 progressive frames per second) for web/pc playback it is much smoother motion but each frame has less resolution individually. Of course you get the best of both worlds with 60p, but not all cameras are capable of such and even so, the resulting image can even look too sharp/videoish for some projects/genres... amazing for slow motion though!

Thanks for the info about modern culture (for me a minuet is a hip dance).

Krute, let's come together for practice, the we show them whippersnappers what us old fart can come up with.

Okay. Thanks, Sol. I don't get what hip-hop has to do with ancient Egyptian rulers, but then there are a lot of things I don't get about youth culture...

Lol, you remember that Salman Rushdie thing?! I hoped I had lived that down.

"Finga tuttin"... now there's a term that will live through the ages....

I couldn't come up with a dance step if my life depended on it, CG. Even when I could dance, I couldn't dance....

I have, however, just finished modifying my two stage props of the Egyptian Cow Goddess, Hathor, and when I get them back from the theatre, I'll post a pic or two. On one of them I've painted hieroglyphics, too.

    That'll show 'em!

Yes, it was with a T2i. Also, before I derailed my own thread with dance talk. I was having a progressive scan export issue. Turns out the problem is with Windows Media Player. I uploaded the same footage that was finicky with WMP to youtube just to see what would happen and it played just fine. I guess I need to update the windows media software? Or the program just isn't capable of handling that type of video? Anyone got some insight?
