    Default Background noise RODE Videomic

    Hi,

I made this video (not ready yet) with some short interviews. It was filmed with an HG20 + rode videomic oncamera (I should have had the mic closer to them). I had ATT turned off.

How do I get rid of this horrible background noise???? What were my mistakes here?

Default I hope this is useful...

As background noises go, it's not the worst that I have heard. Maybe it's the air conditioner in the background?

    My tips:
    1. As you stated, if you wanted no background noise and reduced echo effect, you should keep the mike closer, say, with a lav or boom microphone.
    2. I have found that reducing the sensitivity of the Videomic via the pin-switches inside the battery compartment helped me IMMENSELY.
http://www.dvinfo.net/forum/all-thin...ad-switch.html I set mine to -10db, and I no longer picked up the motor noise of the HV30.
    3. There are a number of software tools to remove background noise. Audacity is free, and works pretty well if you have the patience to tinker with it. However, there is a price to pay with sound quality even with these modern packages.

    Good Luck!

That's poor signal to noise ratio because the mic is on the camera. Get a lav.
The Korova milkbar sold milk-plus, milk plus vellocet or synthemesc or drencrom, which is what we were drinking. This would sharpen you up and make you ready for a bit of the old ultra-violence.

Can't agree more on that one.
Get one, and in worst case, use an extension cable to plug it in camera. I've done it in this test and worked well:
