Angry What the heck FLASH PLAYER?!!?!

OK NOW I AM REALLY PISSED SINCE I HAD TO WRITE THIS A SECOND TIME!!!!!!!!!

What the heck is going on with Flash player?? I was browsing Safari just fine earlier today, then I see a flash player that doesn't work because I need to upgrade to 11.3. I tried upgrading with the built-in updater but of course it failed. So I went to their website and got to this downloads page:

    http://www.adobe.com/support/flashplayer/downloads.html

So I downloaded all three Mac files (I'm running 10.4.11), they just open and close immediately. I right click on the Download the Macintosh Flash Player 11.3 Plugin content debugger file and opened the package contents until I found the installer pkg file which worked. The installer works fine up until 80% or so (it happens real quick) when it says it encountered an error and "Please try again" blah blah blah.

This is ridiculous!!!! What? I can't use Flash player anymore? It was working fine earlier today and now it decided to get upgraded and it doesn't even update!!!! I did my Googling and it looks like another Mac user is having trouble but their installer actually works without having to go in the package contents. I am so frustrated and fed up with it, I've been battling it for 2 hours now, restarting browsers, rebooting over and over trying older versions - everything and on top of that I had to write this OVER AGAIN because this stupid installer force quit as I was typing this up. AH!!!! anyone else having this stupid problem?!

Are you sure Tiger is still supported? It's really time for you to upgrade

    Yeah it says 10.4+

I know I NEED to. I'm a little bit scared. I mean, I backed up everything in the sidebar folders (Pics, Docs, Music, Movies) just feel like I'm missing something.

Don't forget all the Software support libraries.

Best is to get Carbon Copy Cloner and make an image of your drive. You most likely won't need it when you play in the upgrade, but better save than sorry.

Thing is, doesn't that copy my ENTIRE drive? I'm using roughly 110 gb's (I deleted over 50 gigs of crap the other day) and I do not have that much space on an external HDD.

Almo, you better go out and get some 75 dollar USB drive. It might be a life saver. Yes, CC does a full backup of your drive.

Hmm, it is known that Adobe is giving up on Flash, but that it happened that quick? I have it running perfectly well on my iMac (2007 or 08 vintage, can't remember right now) with the latest Lion. Haven't updated the MBP yet, as I'm in the middle of a Flash heavy project. The update screwed up a project once. Since then, I'm hesitant to update.

Flash is a pain in any way. I can't wait to see it gone.

Actually I do have another external HDD which I think is 500 gigs with at least 350 gigs free... I use it to back up the PC. But I think it's formatted to NTFS and not the HFS+. Maybe I can make a partition on it and format that to HFS+ then run Carbon Copy onto that. I recently got some dough as a gift and all I'm willing to spend it on at the moment is the update itself.

By the way, I never updated anything... I just went onto a flash-heavy site and it wouldn't play any of the Flash files and the player itself prompted me to update. Basically it wouldn't play those flash files because they only worked on 11.3. Youtube works fine, it's just some flash requires 11.3 and refuses to play on 10.3 or whatever I have installed now.

If a website requires you to have the latest and greatest software or plugins, then you better tell the developer to go shoot himself. That is very bad web design.
Especially, based on the fact that Flash updates are mainly fixes for bugs introduced in the version they update.

Miraculously it's working again! Probably will be just a matter of time when it will be mandatory to update. By then I'll be on Snow Leopard.

    Weird!

Good luck! Uhm, but you better get CC and and ext. HD. For cases like this, it is nice to be able to roll back dodged updates.

Not sure if you read my post #8 but I do have another USB HDD which should have enough space. I'd just need to partition it to HFS+. Can I use Partition Magic? Not even sure if they make that for Mac. I think I can do it through Disk Utility, right? Time to do some research.

Hopefully this upgrade will alleviate all these ridiculous problems I've been having.

There are tools that allow you to access and write to NTFS drives. I'd get a separate drive though.

If you have space on your windows machine, you could use a drive on that machine via your home network and SMB. You should be able to create a disk image of your complete drive on this share with Disk Utility.

I do have the network set up and sometimes transfer files to the PC that way. It takes FOREVER even for tiny files.

Alright, I'm probably going to format the external HDD that I have to HFS+ and use CC. Then I'll update to Snow Leopard. If all goes well, I'll just format the HDD back to NTFS and put the 100 gigs of junk back on it. I really cannot afford to get another drive right now. Besides, you guys said you never had problems updating

Yes, it is going well in 99.9% of all cases, but who tells you won't be part of the .01%?

It is always better to have a complete backup of your drive.

Alright, I will do that backup. Probably going to pick up SL tomorrow and let that backup run all night.

Hey so I'm running CCC right now. It's not taking long at all... if all goes well I'll have SL installed by the end of the night.

BUT!!!! Why isn't CCC backing up EVERYTHING? It's almost done (it's been 1hr 45 mins) I'd say 90% done and it's telling me Data Copied: 40.91 while I'm using 108 gigs on my main HDD.... what's going on?

Looks like the progress bar got stuck around the 90-95% position but now the "Data Copied" says 104.64 GiB so that's a good sign... it's doing it's job. Phew! Been 3.5 hrs... worth it!

GiB? Gibibytes? That's kind of an odd measurement to use... are you sure you don't mean GB?
