    Default Update For Now

Hopefully this thread won't get the same rubbish attitude that that 'Of Mice And Men' thread did more than 6 months back.

I haven't had enough time for any serious projects so I've been content shoveling out more usual road and update videos. I'm now using Linux of course (Cinelerra's my editor) since Pinnacle Studio started acting weird with transitions and such. Much better video quality since the switchover I've noticed, and recently I discovered the 25fps progressive feature on the HV40 so I've started utilizing that (my last interlaced video turned out awful). Does seem to mean more dropouts on the tape though. Speaking of tape, Panasonic's primary consumer offering does seem to be holding up well for my needs, I bought a 10-pack in November and I'm onto my 6th of that one now. Don't do many takes or videos for that matter so I go through cassettes pretty slowly. When I finally runout I might try out some Fuji's.

You can check out my YT channel here, but not all of those are brand new videos (I have had a real go facelifting my old standard definition videos as my tech is upgraded). So here's a small selection of my latest HV40 videos, starting with the newest.

    Enjoy.

Not very clever to start this thread with what is basically an insult.

Action - reaction, and all that. You should probably read the book: "How to win friends and influence people".
You are -it seems- your own worst enemy.
Maybe in that other thread you didn't learn quite as much as you then seemed to admit:
"I have had enough complaints already so have decided to remove the video. It clearly wasn't something I did particularly well. "

Dropped frames don't have anything to do with your frame rate. Get a head cleaning tape and your problem's solved.

Hmm, looks like Cinelerra*** is now, after 15+ years of development, good enough to actually produce something with it. Cool! I feel tempted to build a new LINUX machine (my old one has ten years on the clock).

*** it is based on the old Broadcast 2000 code that went proprietary ($999) for the more adult *NIX systems somewhen in the late nineties.

OK so I watched one minute of the first clip.
Explain to me why I would continue.

Edit: To be fair I will watch the rest also. After my headache pill kicks in.

Edit: I know I promised to watch it, honestly I tried, I went as far as 4:19, but I can't continue.

If it contains any information, surely this could be posted as a few lines of text.

Please watch it yourself ? What do you think?

Or is this some form of psychological experiment?
Testing how far you can push people before they start smashing things?

You're missing out! The third video was a Lynchesque pscyhdelic, hypno-urban piece of some importance. I urge all young filmmakers to study these closely.

Bit of a mixed reaction it seems. I still feel like some members are trying to educate me on how to be a decent person and make content that they will personally be interested in, while others comment on them as just simple videos and at least watch a small amount of all the samples I've put in to start the thread.

I do films of stuff I am personally interested in. If you don't like it thats too bad, maybe you should look somewhere else.

That's fine and dandy. Yet you post your stuff on your Youtube channel and promote it here. If it's not attention you seek, then what?
The Korova milkbar sold milk-plus, milk plus vellocet or synthemesc or drencrom, which is what we were drinking. This would sharpen you up and make you ready for a bit of the old ultra-violence.

What makes you think I promote it? I'm just looking for feedback, thats all, and its seems logical to post it here since I own the damn camera.

If it was to give technical information to a Youtube audience put the cam on a tripod and be clear about what you are trying to communicate and do so in a concise way.

But maybe this was not your purpose. To me it felt more like a stream of consciousness. But even for that I would not shake the cam around like you are using bug spray.

In what way are you expecting me to benefit from watching?

    Self expression?

Lets go back to the top here.

For starters, how is it doing any harm? I do not understand the logic here. You should be able and prepared to comment on anything no matter how outside your field it may be. I've got one audience, those who like what I film and this is my second, who have the same model of camcorder as I do. What is wrong with it? A bit of community spirit would be great around here.

I need a new tactic for when I next startup a thread like this: ask an admin to lock it as soon as I open it. That would solve all my (and your) problems.

Why don't you instead read the feedback you are getting and respond to it.

We have no problems. Your problem appears to be that you're fond of trolling.

Dunno how that happened... sorry! It was of course a quote from Paspie's post, and my reply was solely to him.

This way you're wasting somebodies' spare time. Really, I had no expectations, but the moment I noticed the first video is 13 minutes long I already did expect quite something. Especially on the Internet that's a serious challenge. Combine it with camera movement which would be pretty good if you're on a boat and some story which starts of as if this is a indeed a long time no see...hmm. Next video?
There is plenty of community spirit around here and perhaps the best proof of that is the fact we're still around even though many have moved on and are no longer using their HVxx cameras anymore. But for that to show in this topic there has to be a connection with the audience or something interesting. And so far neither does apply.

I'm not expecting any responses. Neither does the content of my videos have anything to do with these forums. I just want to share it for the sake of it. I just enjoy you all ranting and raving over nothing.

Hey...we are united in that one, that's the community feeling.
To be honest, you're pretty bad at the trolling, assuming the remainder of the video is filled with you talking and doing things. Pretty sure it took us far less time to respond. Anyway, best luck...ciao.

I'm not a troller everywhere, I just enjoy it here cause its a punishment to your guys' behaviour/attitude. :P

I think the 'A505 At Night' or third video might be a smidge closer to what you guys seem to expect but apart from that any chance of success seems to be dead in the water. Maybe I should concentrate on the gear rather than the videos themselves on these boards in the future....I don't really know.

Looks like you spend very little effort in making your movies. Considering it took you 6 months to come up with those videos,
it's maybe not surprising some would expect some quality. At the very least most here would be looking for SOME signs that
there was some thought going into these videos; some elbow grease, if you will. ANYTHING other than just turning on the cam and pressing record.
An audience needs SOME redeeming value in spending the time watching.

The main questions I have (and someone else has already asked you this):

    1) Do YOU think your videos are worth watching?

    2) Are you at all interested in improving your video-making ability? (Maybe you already consider yourself good enough, with no need for improvement?)

I watched your videos before you posted them here, Paspie (I always keep tabs on anybody tagging HV40 to their Youtube vids). So seeing it here was a little weird. I seriously think you shouldn't take any offense to people not giving a fuck on this day, because you're broadcasting it here and pretty much asking for the response you've gotten. "Oh, don't criticize it because you criticized my last submission." That's bull. We've all seen this before, especially on this site. Guy posts his odd crap and then farts in everybody's face for not liking or understanding it. We've all seen it before. Except you, you ARE trolling on purpose at this point.

So keep posting your weird driving/music jizz on here, that's your right as a member of this forum. But don't play stupid and pretend you won't be getting the same resentment you'll always get.

Jesus Christ what is with all my fellow HV40 users being such fucking weird fucking goddamn headcases?
