Al, I have a bottle of Corvo, a nice sicilian red. I'm going to crack it open when you've sorted your life out. Hurry up please.

BTW, I had some problems with the MA too. You'll be pleased to hear that TimeMachine is so much better.
The Korova milkbar sold milk-plus, milk plus vellocet or synthemesc or drencrom, which is what we were drinking. This would sharpen you up and make you ready for a bit of the old ultra-violence.

    Hahaha.

Really, its pissing me off. It made my new user and everything under a new name and short username. I wanted to leave it the way it was but it says it cant have two users woth the same info. Fine. So now I'm transferring the apps and it seems to be working.

By the way, i noticed Spotlight was freakin indexing the external hdd so I disabled the external from Spotlight settings. That moght have been bogging down MA.

Since it made a new user with all of my settings, I will delete this second user (the one I setup SL with) later on after I settle in

Alright guys, everything is looking good so far... I used Migration Assistant to migrate the applications and it worked perfectly all the way to the end. Now I'm manually transferring my Movies, Docs, Pictures, & Music. I checked the application support, library folders etc and looks like everything is there.

Now... check out this video. This is driving me insane. A big reason why I dislike SL. I remember dealing with this BS on my friend's laptop... EVERY SINGLE FOLDER I open, the files are jumbled and all over the place. Seriously? I really have to go into the view options for every damn folder and click clean up and align to grid???? And then, I have to scroll LEFT or RIGHT to look at the other folders even though there's like 20 inches of empty space in the enclosing folder?? Does not make sense... I hope there's a fix for this....

What version of SL did you install? I started with 10.6.3 and remember to have had this issue.

Did you update to 10.6.8 already?

The QT7 workaround or ridiculously unorganized Finder issue? I don't remember off hand but the Software update for 10.6.8 did pop up. I'll uldate it later today.

    The finder thing.

SL uses QTX as default (as a pure viewer I prefer that one). You only have to follow step 3 from that Macrumors link. The rest is a waste of time.

There is, and an easy fix at that. Open a Finder window and get it set up how you want it. Then click the button that says something like "general settings" towards the bottom of view options. That will apply it to all windows.

You mean "set as default" hah.... That doesnt wok. Freakin views keep changing from list, to thumbnail even though I set specific folders like Applications as List view and thr Music folder as thumbnails.

Isn't there an "always open in list view" option?

Still doesn't work. Basically any time you open the view options, the settings you save are specific to THAT FOLDER ONLY. There is no "Default" finder window settings. Come on, even WINDOWS can do this!!!!

Now on 10.6.8 -- guess what... SAME PROBLEM!!!!! Stupid Finder folders keep changing and new folders I open are always jumbled. I have to manually clean up each one and align to grid. What a joke!!!

I'll look at my Mac when I get home. However, it did work for me when I was on Snow Leopard. I'm on Lion now, but I've got a copy of SL I can boot if I need to.

Have you tried: Finder > View > Show View Options > Arrange by > set to None

That option doesn't even exist. Also the "Show Icon Preview" is driving me nuts as well. I don't want to see icon previews. I have to MANUALLY set this to off for EACH AND EVERY FOLDER!!!! Even if I click "Set as default", it only defaults it to the current folder that is open. Ridiculous!

Why don't you guys have this problem?????

Now I remember why I never had that problem - my Finder is defaulted to Column View....

Ah ok. If it WOULD work properly, my default would be the icon view. But then I'd customize a few folders to my liking. It's VERY annoying.

By the way, check this out... this guy is awesome:

I now have the 2D Tiger dock. I couldn't stand the glossy 3D one. That little gap between my Safari window and the dock drove me nuts. It doesn't work 100% like the Tiger one, but probably like 98%. the only thing wrong with it is the white background magnifies in a weird way, but it's not even a big deal.

Other than these issues, which are major (Jumbled finder folders, cannot disable ALL icon previews, no default finder view) so far I'm liking it... it's very fast compared to Tiger.

It's not only fast, it should also have saved you some twelve or so GB on your HD.

Try repairing your permissions. The setting may not be sticking because it doesn't have permission. A long shot I'll admit, but it can't hurt to try.

    This is pretty annoying...

Apparently I can't control the brightness on BOTH of my displays. When I adjust the brightness using the F14 and F15 buttons on the keyboard (yes I have the beautiful & comfortable old keyboard) it only controls the brightness of my main display. On Tiger it controlled both displays. Why does it control only the main display with Snow Leopard????? Well who cares because I downloaded Shades so I have a bit more control over brightness. I used to use Brightness Control when I was on Tiger and I would have to manually open the application when I need it dark. Shades can run in the background. Nice!

Probably because different displays may require different brightness levels to match. For example, you'd probably want separate brightness control if you had one CFL-backlit LCD and one LED-backlit LCD. You should be able to adjust the brightness with the Displays pref pane, or just the controls on the front of your monitor.

Nope. There is settings for that. On TIGER I was able to control brightness for both displays using the F14/F15 keyboard buttons. That does not work any longer. I don't care anymore because I downloaded Shades!
