    Default Antman's Contest #35 - Unexpected

Just a poster for my entry. I've now got the script settled, the roles cast, the schedule pencilled in ... and the nervous anxiety of actually trying to do a decent job.

I may update this poster with some publicity shots of the main actors, but I thought I'd put the shell up here anyway.

    Hey that's pretty nice!
I like it! It's just a little something, but so far, there's already 3 valid entry at the horizon! These teasers/art concepts are great! I like how you people reacts and participate to this round!
It seems that if it continue that way, we'll have more entries in that one!
    Keep it up!
(if you want to submit other versions, more polished or "worked" concepts, you can as well!)

Wow, sounds exciting. An accident and then something unexpected. Don't screw it up :-)

Well, the accident might be that I don't screw it up and the emexpected outcome might be stunned silence. But I'll need you all to help on that part.

Its going to be fun to make and I'm happy to have any and all criticism once its done.

    Anybody with helpful hints......

I've got some obtrusive background vehicle noise over some dialogue scenes that were shot outdoors. I'm struggling to get a decent sound level on the dialogue without distorting it too much, while I try to supress the vehicle noises. Vehicle noises are vairable, not just a constant hum (I was too near some traffic lights with funny accoustics.I get background traffic, vechicle acceleration when the lights change, and an abrupt stop noise at one stage.)

At the moment I can't re-shoot because one of the actresses is unavailable.

How did you record it? Sounds like it's screwed.
ADR is probably the best option, when your talents have the time.
The Korova milkbar sold milk-plus, milk plus vellocet or synthemesc or drencrom, which is what we were drinking. This would sharpen you up and make you ready for a bit of the old ultra-violence.

Shotgun on camera. (probably should have used a boom above the talents and pointed at the ground, but I didn't have a spare set of hands, and I don't have a lav)

I also had a secondary source being a zoom recorder closer to the talent and just out of shot. It gives a different angle on the sound, but still picks up (different) background noise.

I have a missing actress, so ADR will not be an option (before 1 August anyway).

I guess I'm about to take a crash course in online tutorials about noise filters etc.

That won't be directional enough, same problem.

I'm not sure what would work here. If the noise is constant, a noise remover can notch it out, but I think your noise is sporadic traffic sound. If the noise is well below the speech parts, a noise gate would work, but I'm assuming the noise is too loud for that. I'm not sure which tools you have access to, but there's surgical noise removal in STP. Maybe something like this would help, but it'll be one hell of a lot work.

I'd say it's still, the best option/solution. Especially if your audio is quite badly recorded (nothing negative here).

    1) Oh...maybe you could upload it somewhere and give us the link. Some could work on it to help? (make sure to credit them then! )
    2) Well. If it's for only 1-2 scenes, someone else that can "sound" similar in her voice? Just saying!
    3) Well, that's another possibility!

Thanks for the advice Huey. I'm a PC user so STP will not help, but I have been doing what I can with Audacity and I think I have found someone with Izotope RX. If nothing else I have just learnt a really valuable lesson in taking as much care with audio as with the visual.

Drapes - I opted for the crash course.

Playing - I'll get it entered for better or worse, so you'll be able to see it soon.

Good man, but if you can tell a good story, I'm sure the viewer would forgive a few technical glitches if your point shines through.

I'm looking forward to your entry, best of luck!

Attached is an updated poster for you all.

I can load a video onto my Vimeo account, but how do I attach it to the Antman contest account?

I have no idea if you can see it at the Antman group page.

I've connected to the group and put the settings to public, so feel free to look, laugh, leave me some feedback we can all do it again for a future competition.

I'll check if everything's ok with the videos being uploaded to the group. So far I've received only one notification of a video being added.

    OK. Thanks Drapeama

Let me know if I need to do anything else.

My next 48 hours are going to be pretty busy, but I can try to log on to do whatever is needed.
