Default Sony fs100 .MTS files and Premiere Pro

    Hey all,
I"m using CS5.5 and I'm trying to edit together some .MTS files from the Sony FS100 and .MOV files from a canon 5d and Premiere is not liking the .MTS files at all! Play back is fine, but I'm getting problems like clip doubling where (In premiere) clip 0006.MTS is the same file as clip 0007.MTS. Other than that, the 5d footage imports fine but the audio will not show up. Now, if I play these files in VST, the MTS are origional clips (different from eachother) and there is indeed audio attached to the .MOV files. I've tried reimporting with no luck. It's maddening! Any suggestions?

Convert everything to the same good intermediate before you put it on the timeline - Matrox I frame or Cinescore

That depends. What are your computer/hardware specification? I suspect they may need to be upgraded.

I don't see how any of that can be a hardware problem. Not saying you might not need a hardware upgrade, just that it wouldn't fix this issue. Do like I suggested.

Thanks, Rainer was right with a small 'gotcha'. Thanks for the input. (BTW, it was not the computer, the editing rig is decked out and can handle 4k with no issue).

I found a solution. It's as simple as converting your HDslr footage ala Neoscene to the .avi format. And then editing the converted HDSLR footage with the Sony .mts sony files in Premiere Pro. They Mix fine. Word to the wise, do NOT covert your .mts files to cineform's codec. I have no idea how the architecture of the Sony files works, but for instance we'd have three clips on a card:

    0000.mts
    0001.mts
    0002.mts

Now, on that card, 45min of video was recorded straight using the Sony fs100. But, if you bring in clip 0001.mts into premiere it's only part of the recording. Okay, makes sense. The confusing thing is when you bring in JUST the first clip 0000.mts, it's a 45min file that includes ALL of the footage put on that card. (in your NLE only - the actual file is only say 12min long). No idea how that works.

Hopefully this helps you if you're ever in a similar predicament.

All high-definition camcorder video format conversion can be use iCoolsoft products, if you are a Mac user, u can download icoolsoft mts converter for mac.

How did you bring your media into Premiere. If you used the import clip option, you will get in trouble as your clips will not be continuous due to the max. length. If you use media browser option and import through that, you will see the complete clip and won't have such problems.
