The ISO settings looks attractive, as long as it worth the extra values more than on the previous models.

It seems a useless refresh. 25600 iso ara available with modified firmware on older models but they are less-than-usable

The Digic 5+ processor should help with that, no?

The silent stepping motor lenses seem really cool, almost makes the camera a perfect replacement for a traditional camcorder now (depending on how well it works in production).

    Those functions aren't bad:
#1: Video Clip Length Up to 8GB or 22 Min
#2: Audio Recording With Video, Stereo

Would it worth the trade? Not for me.

The 25,600 is only an option, but it will deliver better quality in the lower ranges.

Apparently the T4i uses the plain Digic 5, not the Digic 5+. The 5+ doesn't have any moire/aliasing, but the Digic 5 as used in the G1 X, *does* have major moire/aliasing issues. It's possible that the engineers have fixed things in the firmware/processor since the G1 X shipped, and the T4i might not have moire/aliasing, but we will have to see tests to be absolutely sure. That's the only part that I'm not sure about the T4i atm. Everything else, makes this camera the best camera for the buck video-wise.

Note, the only difference between the 5 and 5+ is that the 5+ is 5x faster than the 5 (and overall 17 times faster than Digic4). But that 5x slower speed might, or might not, be enough for the engineers to enable/disable line skipping (and thus, aliasing/moire). Again, we will have to see video samples to be 100% sure what's up with that.

So for someone that doesn't yet have a DSLR, do you think it would be worth it over the t3i/t2i?

Depends on the filters they glued in front of the sensor.

Bertzie, wait until the first reviews are out (but take any review with a good dosage of salt).

The point of the Digic5 was so that it didn't need any filters to avoid moire. The faster the processor, the better resizing-down algorithms it can use to get a good quality 1080p image out of the full 18+ MP sensor. But if they're still relying on filters to avoid moire, then the Digic5 is not all what it's cranked to be. Basically, what I'm saying here is that the Digic5 needed to do this with or without filters. It's a software issue, and given that the Digic is now so much faster, it should have been able to do all this. Anyways, we will need to see actual footage testing aliasing/moire before we can draw a conclusion. That's the only thing that's keeping me from pre-ordering the T4i to replace my 5D MkII (I need 60p).

Those issues have been the only thing keeping me away from a Canon DSLR.
    Thanks for the info.
    I'll be watching.

It probably isn't just a "refresh". Olympus really "prodded" the market into more serious high ISO (although the manufacturers were also pushing themselves) when early testers began reporting "CLEAN" ISO 6400 with the OMD E-M5. I saw pictures shot at 12,800 that looked quite a bit less noisy than what I got with 6400 on Canon DSLRs.

I think in this area we are seeing "trickle down" developments from the research and development Canon went through with the C300. We'll see when good reviews start rolling in.

I'd put a lot of credence to Eugenia's comments and opinions.

The double clip length and continuous autofocus (hopefully existing USM lenses can be used efficiently as well) are tempting. I'll wait for the reviews and the price to drop though.

The 600D moiré issue never bothered me as I mostly use it at 3x zoom.

So far, don't see much reason for me to upgrade from t3i to t4i

That's a good thing Taky: I couldn't afford to take your T3i this time!

I doubt if existing USM lenses will work well if at all with the continuous autofocus. The two new lenses Canon is introducing are designed to work with continuous autofocus on the T4i. Probably somewhat similar to the same capability on the Panasonic GH2, that function only works with certain lenses.

JK, that's the continuous burst speed. Why even bother to include that. What a joke. No one will buy this for photography so why mention it? COLD HARD FACT.

Don't get me wrong I've been shooting DSLR photography lately so I have no hatred towards its photography uses. I'd like one myself... for photography.

These cameras are still first and foremost still cameras.
Most people who buy these do so mainly for photography with being able to shoot video as a nice extra.

Adding all this video stuff adds versatility. One camera to do it all. Great for an entry level camera.
