Well said and very pertinent to my own life here in Thailand. Thai society is tribal and in being a foreigner I am meant to be subordinate. What that amounts to personally is for me to carefully manage the passive-aggressive tendencies of the Thai staff in controlling foreign teachers when it comes to hours spent in the office, what we choose to do with our holidays and weekends, etc.

Ah, yes, good old "passive-aggression". What (some) women use instead of guts....

Interested to know just how you manage that, Doc, in a place where everybody's using it. Can't be easy!

    I once saw a T-shirt, stating:

"The one who owns most things when he dies, is the winner..."

I beg to disagree - but I think it was meant to be facetious... but in today's society, you newer know!

My ideal is to use up or give away everything and die with nothing.
I tell my friends to go to a shop that sells these big fridges. I am sure they will have a cardboard box to bury me in.

Yep, in this world, it wouldn't surprise me if there actually were people who agreed with that.

But then, nothing surprises me now.

Good idea, but the Undertaker's Union would call a strike in protest...

Life has taught me that keeping your mouth shut is a sure fire way not to look like a fool and lose friends. Unfortunately, mine seems to have a mind of its own.
