40hrs of footage to upload and render- OMG

Hi to all

I have a client who wants to shoot footage of his company literally building an inground pool from start to finish. This is a massive project for me and will take approx 40 hours of raw footage. He then wants to have it formatted so it plays in fast motion on his website for a couple of minutes.

Now I have shot 1 hour of footage before and it took another 2 hours to upload and render it.

Am I looking at say another 80 hours of effort to have this done for him, OR is there another or quicker way that I am just not seeing?

If you had a dslr that could support it, would using the magic lantern timer be just as good as an actual interval timer Janke?

Cheers Janke - but what does that actually mean? Is there a specific piece of equipment accessory I need that would suit the HV40 I have? Sorry for my naivety.

Yes, Google is your friend!

You could even do it with a HV40, provided you wire up a remote and a timer (needs some electronics and soldering...) - but it's easier to do with a SLR (e.g. a T2i/550D or similar) that you can get the accessories for, off-the-shelf...

There are other ways. Many newer cameras have a time-lapse function built in. For example, my Panasonic TM900 will interval record no problem - 1 second, 10 seconds, 1 minute, etc. You can plug it in, run it all day and end up with a file that is 16 seconds long if you recorded at 1 frame per minute for eight hours. Of course you could go with a shorter interval and do time compression in any NLE but you don't have to compress the whole 80 hours.
