Whereas I am sure to agree with what that article "ought" to convey, it is -unfortunately- written by a naīve 14-year old with no research.
It has only one goal: the reader exclaims a decently loud "Ahhhh" after reading the article.
That goal is probably achieved, but it's typical "Massenplauderi" stuff: cutesy & sugary information for the masses.

For example, claiming Finland was the first country to give women the right to vote is a bit of a stretch.
Although heavily disputed, the general consensus remains New Zealand.
It makes for more brownie-points in the article though, to claim that to be another Finland-best, so let's just state it as fact.

Oh, where have the good journalists gone? Oh, where?

Is the suicide rate pegged to Scandinavian death metal?

Agree. I really don't think articles like this are worth much, even less if they list countries (or films, or whatever) in some specific order... (Being serious here, just for once...)

    Nope, to C2H5OH...

Edit: Checking Wiki very quickly, it appears the Pitcairn was even earlier than New Zealand...

Indeed, but with a population so small, and all its implications, it is/was not really considered a country.

I made a documentary film about it. Yet to edit it though.
    It's quite the story!

Uhm, are you guys talking about active and passive voting rights? If it's also passive, then Finland WAS the first.

I only visited Helsinki in the wintertime on business (they always had to send me in January). It was f'ing cold, dark and vodka was flowing in rivers. Weird folks there, but nice!

I did some hitchhiking there once.: after 2 hours driving, all I knew was that he was Finnish, and all he knew was that I wasn't.
We did point at tree lines, animals, the road, and various cars several times, each making some in-depth comments, neither of us understanding each other's remarks though.

Then I stopped at a hostel where there were no vacancies, so I slept in the sauna.

    Ah, the good 'ol days!

Oh, please! Them Ruskies didn't allow much of any autonomy during that time, least of which would have been voting rights for woman!
    But I may be wrong.

Ehm, no. Finland was the first country in the world that allowed women to elected (passive voting rights). Hence my qualifier. Finland's first Parliament had women as members.

.... if this was a German-speaking forum, I could make some flat jokes about Mitglied (member) and mit (with) Glied (Penis) now....

For the record, Canada began to allow women (unmarried and widowed) limited voting rights in 1884. Granted it took a while to gain FULL voting rights (1917 I believe), but the point is the article is not quite correct.

You are very good at it!

Bob, if you go for limited rights, then you can go back to the 13th or 14th century where widowed or unmarried women had the rights to vote in magistrate or guild elections in Europe
