Default Under the Knife short film

I created this short film using a Canon HV30 and Letus 35mini adapter and Nikon prime lenses.

I was going for a David Lynch, surreal style.

    Thanks!

Well that was... interesting I guess. I like the concept and possible story behind it though.

But what was the point of the jump scares of her suffocating herself? What'd that have to do with the upcoming storm?

What I was going for there was that her pulling the plastic to her face was part of her preparation, and her all wrapped up was what she imagined the storm would be like. The storm meaning what it will be like to die. Maybe that didn't play out the way I planned. Did you have a different interpretation, or was it just confusing?

    Thanks,
    -Matt

It wasn't confusing, it just came off as an attempt to scare the viewer.

So are you saying that the upcoming storm is death? If so, what's the significance of the necklace?

-Ah I see. I wasn't trying to have it be a cheap scare, but I see how that happened.

-Correct. I know its vague, but I was using the fist full of raven feathers to represent a death sentence(like a terminal illness or something similar), and then Stamatina deals with it by creating something in the form of the necklace.
I've heard a couple other ideas of meanings people have drawn from it, which I think is great.
Thanks for taking the time to question it. I appreciate the feedback.

I enjoyed it . I am also a big fan of David Lynch. One thing he likes to do is leave things open to interpretation, when you try to explain things as you are doing it sort of narrows the view. He would probably say he used black feathers because he likes black feathers, and a storm because he likes storms - if he was in your shoes

Like a dream we don't always have to understand so sometimes we don't have to try to explain either. Anyways, that's how I see it

Ahhhh I see... very wise insight. That way, I'm not explaining away things and letting the audience come up with their own conclusions. I just didn't want to seem pretentious. Thanks for the advice and watching the film!

Interesting for sure. How did you like the adapter?

One (minor but noticable) continuity thing that happens early on- @ 1:19, we see her finish locking and chaining the door. Even on the long (OTS) shot before cutting to the envelope under door, the chain is in place... then she stands, envelope in hand. The chain is there dangling... it was a bit jarring.

I didn't get past 1 minute of this worthless piece of shit "Film". You apparantly don't watch too many films becuase the ENTIRE FIRST minute of this god-awful devil's farse was concentrated on some low class white trash apartment.

This film should be awarded the white trash film of the year. What is your address so I can send you an invoice for my 1 minute time wasted.

It worked out pretty well. One of the issues I had was the focus on the HV30 getting moved which was a giant pain. It gives a decent DOF which is pretty awesome.

Nice catch. I thought it might read as unintentional, but I went with it anyway. Thanks for checking it out!
