Default looking for embedding some trigger into video...

This might be easy or might be hard....I tried looking but can't seem to find it.

I need some embedded code into video files that can trigger external relays.
I.e. the video gets encoded with some sort of timecode/SMTPE/GID or whatever, that when played through some
connected device can trigger various relays at the times specified in this embedded code.

    Does anything like that exist?

    Any help MUCH appreciated....

    Various relays? How many?

I'd use the KISS principle, and code the stuff into audio, not video. For instance, use one of the L/R track, or superimpose 16 KHz signals, which are easy to filter out, and you can code pulses in any way you wish. There should be available circuitry for this, otherwise, it's an easy job for any electronics whiz kid...

How many? Well, I need maybe 20 different signals, but that could be done with pulses I guess.
Your idea of using the audio channel is a good one....I will investigate further....

Your planning on building a disco light? I think Janke has the right idea.
I don't know if that stuff still exists, but there were frequency driven triggers available. Their output was good enough for some 2A each***. A simple 8 channel setup was less than 50 bucks (some 30 years ago). Check Radio Shack.

*** IIRC, they weren't switched by relays, but transistors.

Disco light? That's soooo 80s - I think Mal has thunk up some competition to Disney's Audio-animatronics...

It's super top-secret....nothing like it anywhere on earth...well.. maybe.

But I will now look for frequency driven triggers. Thanks.
