Hey guys, I'm toying with the idea of switching to filming in 3D all the time, assuming there is no quality loss in displaying it as 2D as I'd still be using the content at 2D for the forseeable future. The idea basically is that in 10 years if 3D is the norm then I'd have a 10 year backlog of content ready to be re-rendered in 3D. I currently film at 1920x1080x60p and would like to keep it that way, and I saw that in 2D mode the Sony HDR-TD20V does indeed record in that mode. But I notice that when recording in 3D mode the specs list it as 1920x1080x60i.

So my question is, does that even matter in this case that it records in 60i in 3D mode? Again assuming that for the near future I'd be recording all content in 3D but rendering it out for use in 2D, since that Sony has two separate full hd lenses each recording at 60i, presumably when rendered to 2D it just combines the two feeds together (assuming each lense is recording alternate interlaced frames from the other) so that the net 2D result is basically 1920x1080x60p footage that would be identical to any other 1920x1080x60p camera? Just wondering if I'm understanding the process right. I try not to get too hung up on paper stats, but if I did switch to this camera I really want to make sure I'm not hurting the quality of my short term 2D footage by recording full time in 3D.
