Default 15mm rod rig - carbon or aluminum PROs CONs needed!

coollcd.com has them both, I am wanting to begin gather pieces and eventually migrate from my PCV rig to a 15mm based DIY rig.

I actually built a 1/2" copper pipe rig; but because the pipes are a little bigger than 15mm, made it very difficult to use 15mm attachments.

Just looking for a little advise! Thanks!

I have carbon fiber rods. They're light and quite sturdy. Honestly, I think both does the job, it's mostly the weight that will justify one or the other.

I've done one for my DOF adatper, using 3/8 aluminium rods. Doesn't cost a lot and works like a charm (album link here):

Go with carbon, lighter and stronger, provided you buy quality rods, not sure about the ones from coollcd.com but I've owned so many different versions of aluminium and carbon to tell you carbon is much nicer to work with... you should however consider light reflection when buying either, meaning a matte finish is more desirable than a reflective one when shooting under the sun or bright lights.

The nicest ones I've owned were the V2 triple carbon EASOM Areospace/Optics rods (seen HERE), but Cory Easom doesn't seem to be involved in his ordering procedure anymore and they are NOT easily obtainable from his webstore unless purchased with a cage, although be careful as some of the new cages from EASOM come with aluminium now. You could however try to contact him directly at "coryeasom @ yahoo [dot] com" and request a price for a certain length.

The next best ones I've used were from THIS guy, they are super stiff and have a matte finish to eliminate harsh light reflection. I think Drapeama might have even bought a set of those off me if I'm not mistaken... too bad he's out of stock/business, so it seems.

Anyway, you could go aluminium if it's just the 2 rods, but when you have more than that (like a cage/shoulder rigging) the whole rig gets pretty darn (unbearably) heavy! (EXAMPLE)

One or the other, as long as it's all the same material...but carbon fiber rods are lighter and just as sturdy. Safe choice imho.

(btw, I removed the direct link to his email address to prevent spambots frenzy)
