    Default Cheap IR filter

I happened to have a piece of black Plexiglass/Perspex in my workshop - looking through it, I could clearly see any incandescent light bulb, but not fluorescents.

This told me that the piece transmits Infrared - and yes, shooting a photo through it does indeed give the IR effect:

Note that this doesn't work with the T2i - it has a more efficient IR blocking filter in its sensor, but it works with a Sony Cybershot pocket cam. The HVXX cameras can't expose long enough to see "through" the black Plexiglass...

If you find a bit of black plexi, and can see a light bulb through it (dark red), it may work for you, too!

Interesting find! What situation would you use this for?

Now, why in the world were you looking through a peice of black plexiglass to begin with?

Sometimes necessity is the mother of invention, other times, people just do stuff. Think of something.
