Thread: Shooting Fight Scenes

    Default Shooting Fight Scenes

So, after 7TM is in the can and I get to work on my new screenplay (Martial Arts film)

I'm going to be headed into new territory with martial arts fight scenes.

I have a background in martial arts, but have never filmed a fight scene. I'm wanting to do this in a 80's, 90's style rather than the way these newer Jet Li movies are. Any tips?

    Rehearse. Rehearse. Rehearse.

That tip was given to me by an industry vet fight coordinator.

Well, you have to determine what you want to showcase in fighting style and approach and also a style etc that suits each character and the location of the fight either in an office etc. Then the fight has to be choreographed and stunts pick up places that actors cant perform. Then rehearsal and then the shoot. There was this guy that posted a couple of fighting tips on this forum perhaps you should touch base with him and also Nate who is on this forum too. I get a feeling you will not be doing cables with people flying so you should be comfortable then. But certainly lots of quick cuts and varying angles to sell the fast paced fight to make it believable. Perhaps you should also pay close look at make up and costume also.
