    Default Under $300 Camcorder recommendations.

Hi. I am in NZ on holiday and was considering giving my HV20 to my mum but with tape and FW capture it's too much hassle for her.

From personal experience, can you make a suggestion for an under $300 camcorder?

Battery life, IQ and audio quality, and HD are the main considerations.

This stems from me having tediously captured and converted her old VHS tapes for her and her seeing the importance of recording family life; twenty years down the track.

    Cheers.

Canon HFR20... pretty good image quality (assuming you don't use the interlaced framerates)

This on is a little over $300, but I recommended it to a friend of mine on a tight budget, and he's using it for vlogging and short films... so home movies, this little thing will crap all over that.

    Ebay has decent prices: http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Canon-VIX...item3f165905e4

    EDIT:

Or, for $250ish, you could get the Canon HFM301 which looks pretty snazzy for the price. Not too sure how they go with videos though, I was considering getting one to replace one of my HV30's when I get my GH2 (specifically for multi cam shoots).

Still roughly 300$ on B&H though. But I guess anything under that wouldn't worth the investment.
I DO IT BECAUSE I CAN. I CAN BECAUSE I WANT TO. I WANT TO BECAUSE YOU SAID I COULDN'T.

    Canon. com

There are several here, they stand behind them. I have bought 7 from Canon and not had a single issue.
The 301 looks like a winner, there are several others.

    * Not sure if they have an outlet to get it over to you, just saw you were out of the USA>
