Default Trailer for "Wild in the Streets", feature comedy shot on HV30

    Hey guys,

Well, long story short (very long story!), my friends and I have been shooting a feature film off and on for about 2 and a half years. We started in January 2009 and wrapped in the Fall of 2011. I've been working on the trailer off and on since then, and staying busy on a few other projects. I've got a good chunk of the film actually edited but still have a ways to go. Would love to hear some feedback from fellow HV20 members. It was shot on the trusty HV30, mic'd with a VideoMic on a boom. Thanks, and enjoy!

    Synopsis:
Haden makes his way out to California to spend a fun summer of extreme rollerblading with his cousin Danny, and loyal friend Sharkee. But after an unexpected run in with the villainous Hawks, Haden's plans take a turn for the worse... Naturally, the opposing forces must race for territory in this cliché-filled throw back to the extreme sports movies of the 80's and 90's. Will Haden get the girl? Will he summon the courage to defeat the Hawks? Will the inevitable training montage actually work? Find out in "Wild in the Streets!"

    Here is the trailer embedded...

And below are some BTS photos from our 2-3 year shoot at various stages of technical know-how (luckily we didn't age much, for continuity reasons). We learned a lot along the way (and reshot a lot of stuff as we learned how to do it better), most of what we learned coming from the HV20 board.

Production boards, helping me keep a grasp on what we'd shot, how much we had left, etc.

Filming at one of the main locations, the Hawk's house.

We used the DVD player monitor for a while but eventually ditched it for convenience and mobility.

Trusty HV30 with Wide angle and XH A1 hood.

The 3 good guys outside the gas station. We got most of our audio with a Rode Mic going right into the HV30, but near the end (as the rubberbands on the Video Mic became to squeaky) we started using NTG 2 going into an H4n. The actually mix together quite nicely.

Me operating a DIY slider (I play a main role in the film and also directed it).

More of the HV30 in action! Me on the right, and on the left is Matt, my brother and co-director... and actor. We all wore many hats!

An uncolor-corrected screenshot of some race action.

    More to come!

Wow, that screenshot looks beautiful! I wouldn't know the difference if it was shot on RED or HV30... or maybe film!!! It looks that great. I may need just a BIT of CC, but I think it looks amazing as it is. HV's are incredible camcorders.

Almo... BIT of sarcasm? Haha, I like the look of the shot, but RED or film may be a bit much. Thanks either way! I'm finding more and more that in an indie world dominated by DSLR's, the look of the HV has a refreshing aesthetic and now feels "original" if that makes sense.

That said, since wrapping I did buy a T3i and that looks pretty stunning as well.

Geez, that looks like it was an awesome time. JEALOUS. I can only wish to be a part of a project like that, because you can easily tell that everybody was into it.

Much love for this, how can we see the whole thing?

Thanks Mark! I think my cast/crew would beg to differ on a few occasions (filming rollerblading race action in the 110 degree Texas heat comes to mind), but I've definitely been very lucky to have the group of friends that committed to stick it through, even when it seemed like we'd never finish. The whole film isn't finished yet, but I'll be posting more pictures along the way, sneak peeks, and some outtakes/behind the scenes videos. Here are a few more production stills:

I feel like you can see the heat here, haha.

Me grabbing a shot on the fly for a 12 page action scene, rushing to finish up before the overhead lights cut off (hence why I'm still wearing rollerblades). We actually tried to go about getting a permit to shoot here (as a first), but the small town we shot the scene in hadn't ever been asked that before so they didn't know how to do one. Instead of being able to shoot all night with the lights kept on like we wanted, we had to shoot over many nights for 2 hours each (It wouldn't get dark enough til 9:30 in the summer, and the light would cut off between 11:30 PM and midnight... usually right in the middle of a good take).

No explanation needed... And that shot of me busting won't even make the movie.

    Shot of the editing room.

Uncolor-corrected shot of one of the rollerbladers taking a spill...

And one more right before this one busts into the fence (accidentally taking a few planks out. That one WILL be in the movie!)

I hear ya man! It was a good way to show what we're doing and the feel we're going for, but you're definitely right.

Thanks! That's still yet to be determined, but I will post more here as we get closer to figuring it out.
