I have a new Vixia m500 which replaced my hv30. I can't get the video from the av out port to work. I have turned the av/headphones option (under the wrench tab) to AV. The jack works when I set it to Headphones, I hear sound in my headphones. The hdmi port works. I have contacted Canon tech support and have done everything correctly. They recommended I send it in. I sent it in for repair and they said nothing is wrong.
I get audio out and some lines across the screen when I plug it into a older tv. With Visio Tv's I get no "no input" presumably because the video signal is not strong enough to allow the audio to come through.
I took my video setup (a portable dvd player with an avi in that works just fine with my sony sr10) into bestbuy to try their m500 and r20, and got the similar results (not working).
I have tried 2 different mini to 3 x rca cords into no less than 3 tvs. When I test my cables out, they work fine. When I take the output from my sony sr10 through the same setup/cables everything is fine.
I am a bit frustrated as I need this to work since I have a small video transmitter for stedicam work that only accepts an RCA plug input.
I have ordered Canon's accessory cable ($20 with shipping, ripoff) just to ensure that the cable isn't the issue, but really, I think my cables are fine (they work with the SR10, or any other mini rca outputs).
Could someone please test your av outs on any of the vixia series. Thanks.
Sorry for the long post, but I would rather post all the info rather than a post of "it's not working".
