Default YouTube in 3D and YT vs. Vimeo

I was surprised to see that YouTube now automatically creates a 3D-representation of uploads, to be watched either with anaglyph glasses (red/cyan or red/green), or cross-eyed, or with an auxiliary mirror !

It works surprisingly well, at least the test I just lploaded:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=koh-IiBO4ug

After a short pause, there will be a small 3D icon lower right, click that to switch on 3D, and adjust the settings.

Also, I joined Vimeo (the free version) to check if the comments on quality have any basis, and I think I can see a slight difference in Vimeo's favor. (In 720p, the free Vimeo doesn't allow 1080p...)

Compare for yourself, if you're interested; I uploaded exactly the same, original file:

Maybe the difference is even more noticeable in Vimeo Plus, which costs $60 per year? (At least you get 1080p for that... )

    1080p

When it works at all (through a proxi), I am happy to watch Netflix in about 240p.....for 10 minutes...then wait another few minutes to buffer...then watch some more...
    YT is similar.

    Just saying!

I guess you don't have the fastest web connection, Traveling Mal!

Even with ADSL (at my current max speed of 5 MBps, even though they promise 10MBps), 1080p is a bit wonky at times, needing buffering.

Our condo will probably choose a new ISP, and we expect to get a true 10down/10up connection for all apartments in a couple of months.

Talking about 3D: I picked up one of these last time I was in the States: DXG-5F9VK
and just got a 3D 32" TV (cheap Skyworth model).
Surprisingly good effect for less than U$500!

Only problem is Vegas Pro won't recognize the files.

I don't think it'll bring anything better to what's YouTube already have in industrial quantity: junk stuff for most part.
The only reason why I'm using it over vimeo is that I can upload more than 1HD video and more than 500mb per week for free...but all the crap that can be found as well as the annoying advertising at the bottom of every video you watch...
Just like the old movies that are now re-chewed & presented in 3D...
    Ahhh well.
I DO IT BECAUSE I CAN. I CAN BECAUSE I WANT TO. I WANT TO BECAUSE YOU SAID I COULDN'T.
