    Default FCP X updated!

It doesn't add nay real new features, beside adding simplified Chinese, but rather expands and fine tunes existing stuff. Weighs in at 1.5GB download.

Motion got fast with opening projects and ingesting images.

Compressor is speeding up MP4 and AVI rendering. It supports now CPUs without monitors in the cluster - build a render farm with a bunch of second hand Minis like you can do in Blender (that's cool!)

    10.0.6 is great!

    - Finally MXF natively integrated. No more Canon plugin needed.
    - New audio mixing features (that I haven't played with yet)
    - Even faster than before
    - Dual Viewer Window with scopes for both
    - Native R3D support (who needs it?)
    - Import now unified; no more difference between camera and file import
    - copy/paste Attributes is back!
    - Multiple range selections allowed now
    - Multicam even better!
    - even more crash resistant!
    - etc.

That whole thing is impressive! Try it out!

It was weird to not be saving all the time like I have to do with Vegas. 10.0.6 felt very stable.

It is stable. I have been using FCP X since day one. Since 10.0.3 my sole production tool***. It was a bit crashy at the beginning - especially, when you tried to run too many commands too fast - but rock solid since .0.5. I had more issues with FCP6.

*** I have done two projects with CS6 in between, but it feels so clumsy compared to FCP.

    - Even faster than
The background render flies! Even with my nVidia 330 in the MBP the background render is fast enough that you don't need to turn it off anymore. Had clips with a total of about 20 minutes to render. Until I got my coffee, it was done already. The whole thing was about 35 minutes long. Qt Master export took about 3 minutes.

    Wow!

How much money you got to spend? 15" retina MBP with the full load of RAM is the perfect laptop for X. It's about a pound lighter than the "standard" MBP.

These are the newest ones out correct? so there is not much chance of finding refurbished almost new at a discount? I dont really know that i need retina display if the one without is cheaper. The lighter weight would really be ideal.
I will miss my MBP 06. Twas my First computer and ive had ZERO problems!!

    Of course, there is. http://store.apple.com/us/browse/home/specialdeals/mac

Editing FCP X on a 13" non-retina can be a bit of pain, but is doable.

The 15 inch refurb looks really good. Thanks for the link! When at home i would also use a second monitor for editing...the MBP is all that comes with me when travelling though...oh god now the process to take everything off my MBP 06!! Exhausted just thinking about HTF??

I have a 15" late 2010 with 2.66GHz i7. Runs FCP X perfectly well. Just put in enough RAM.

We are at 0.7 since this morning. Just some minor bug fixes.
Motion also got an update to 5.0.6 - a bug with Image Units was sorted out, and it has better support with dual screens now when more than one project is open.
Nothing on Compressor. That seems to be a dying breed.

Weird. Now I see the Compressor upgrade. Improves performance and stability and fixes an issue with Vimeo uploads.

Thanks. I am at a decision point over whether to edit an upcoming multi-cam skating show on FCPX or stay with the familiar Sony Vegas. Usually I don't patch or update the system during an edit so I would have to make the 10.0.7 update and probably Compressor this weekend and test. Then there's the DVD Architect 6 "free" upgrade. For these holiday shows I don't do a menu, only chapters on the DVD. Could do in FCPX or make an MPEG file and author in DVDA.

Multicam is much easier to handle in FCP than in Vegas.

Vegas: Drop your tracks on the timeline, synch via the audio, mark them as multicam, play and click in the preview window on the take you want. How much easier than that can it get?

Select your clips and right-click. Choose Multicam, done. Use the number keys to choose wanted angles during playback. Fast and without hassle.

The Korova milkbar sold milk-plus, milk plus vellocet or synthemesc or drencrom, which is what we were drinking. This would sharpen you up and make you ready for a bit of the old ultra-violence.

When FCP X came out, it didn't have any multicam capacity. When it did get it a few months ago, it was pretty much the same procedure as Vegas. I was just saying multicam capability isn't a good way to differentiate between the two programs. I use both. Neither is great. If you'd said Vegas 12 is as buggy as a bowery flophouse while FCPX pretty much stands up on it's own, I'd have to agree.

I mentioned it NOT to differentiate the two apps. Multicam in FCP X is the fastest and most hassle-free way to do it. It came in 0.3 and was further optimized in 0.5 and 0.6 (audio features).

I haven't used Vegas since version 6 (didn't work in WINE anymore), but the way you described it, reminds me on the workflow in FCP Classic. It was nice, but much slower and more complicated than in X.

I use the VASST Quad Cam script in Vegas, which did multi-cam since before Vegas had it natively. I can comment on the FCPX ease of use *real soon.*
