Check out the trailer for this Indonesian martial arts action thriller that's out in theaters right now called "The Raid." It looks very good. I saw the trailer a few days ago but only found out yesterday that it was filmed on the Panasonic AF100. It's from the same folks who brought us "Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon" and "Kung-Fu Hustle."

and then there's the BTS:

They used no steady cam in this movie and went for what they called a sort of "Semi-Documentary" look to it. There is a lot of fast motion in this film. I'm curious to see how it turned out with this CMOS camera. From what some folks said it turned out great. One person talked about the noise in dark areas....but he did go on to say that he was looking for it. He also said the average joe wouldn't notice it. Then again.....even the Red is noisy....so...your viewing mileage may vary.

The main reason they went for HD is because , as they say, they would have lost a lot of wasted film due to having so many takes in their action scenes. Good choice I say. You can see in the BTS footage the Fig Rig in action. They chose the Fig Rig because this allowed them to have an energetic dynamic movement to each shot without being too chaotic and handheld. I guess it's time for me to take another hard looks at getting a Fig Rig because from what I've seen in the trailer....it helps a lot.

Check it out.
