I'd rather watch Birdemic than ANYTHING out in theaters today.

I actually saw that available on Blu-ray at Best Buy about 2 weeks ago.

    $7 and change, I believe.

I passed on it and bought one that turned out to be almost as bad...

Saw the Hunger Games. No spoilers here.

Umm...started out badly for me at least, because it was extreme shaky cam. Pet peeve of mine, I know it's supposed to create tension or whatever, but I find it extremely annoying. About 20 minutes in the camera man quit drinking coffee, or found his tripod, I don't know but it wasn't that bad during the rest of the movie, although it still cropped up from time to time.

The cinematography was good, nothing particularly striking as far as lighting or camera moves, all pretty standard fare, but solid and well done.

It was a bit slow, at least for me. Not that slow burn tension building kind of movie like Drive or Woman in Black, both of which I recently enjoyed very much, but just a little of a drag in the pacing.

The action was dramatic, but I don't know, not entertaining like action in The Matrix, or something like that. Again, well done, but I just didn't find it that exciting.

The story was really over in the first 15 minutes of the movie. There is a set up. We're pretty much told the history of the "Hunger Games" and what they are. Then we watch the Hunger Game. That's the movie. There's really not much more plot after that. There's a short wrap up with a set up for the next movie, and ta da, that's your story.

I"m pretty big on plot, so I wanted a bit more, although for what it was it was well done. There was character development, and you did care what happened to the characters and that's HUGE. Without that you just don't give a crap about the movie. That was John Carter. Did I care if these people lived or died? Nope, not really. So at least the Hunger Games had that going for it.

I give it a B. It was certainly very popular, but I'm thinking the audience that enjoyed it might not like the movies I really like, so well done, but not really targeted towards me.
