    Default Game #405 (v2)

    Game version 2
    5 somewhat easy recognizable pictures:

    Guidelines:
The movie[s] may or may not have been part of a previous game. The images are a little easier and more revealing, but you need to get all 5 right to win. The first person to get ALL 5 right, wins. The basic rule of this version is to select images that are unique to the film you're presenting. We shouldn't post shots of something that could have come from hundreds of other films. The trick in this game is to pick a shot that is very unlikely to appear in any other film, while at the same time is not a dead giveaway, (like eg, the Red Sea parting!) (© Krute/MAL)

    Rule A:
NO IMAGE HOSTING ON EXTERNAL SERVERS. Images for the games need to be ATTACHED to the post, and thus uploaded to our server.

    Rule B:
ONLY ONE GUESS OF ALL 5 MOVIES PER PERSON PER PICTURE SET!!! There will be an initial set of 5 images, and your guess has to INCLUDE ALL FIVE movies. Simply guessing or answering one, two, three or four of them will disqualify you from that particular game, and the post will be removed. If no one can answer all 5 movies correctly within a reasonable time, a new set of 5 NEW pictures will be posted. Clues may or may not include which, if any, of the movies have been correctly guessed, at the discretion of the person starting the game. Only persons who have already posted their answer can participate in discussing the correctness of any or all of the previous guesses.

    Rule C:
The WINNER of the game can start a new game IN A NEW THREAD.
NO ONE ELSE (unless yielded so by the winner). Game type one, two or three can be started.

    Rule D:
Once there's a winner, PLEASE post the correct name of all movies into the thread (spelled correctly, and capitalized correctly, and not in italics or bold face.)

    Rule E:
    The correct title format is: "Game" / space / "#" / number / "(v2)"
Example: " Game #212 (v2)" (without the ") (no space between the # sign and the number!) "v2" denotes version two, for version one, there needs to be no version number.

    Rule F:
The film selected should be one that has had an international, theatrical release.
I.e. a made-for-TV movie only shown in the USA would hardly be a fair entry, as
    we have international players also.

    Rule G:
These complete rules (A to G and Guidelines), or 1 to 7 if game type 1 is played, have to be copy & pasted into each new game's first post.

First clue: All are black-and-white classics!

These first grabs are teasers - I don't expect you to get them all - new grabs and clues will follow shortly.

I intend to keep a fast pace in this game - guesses or not, I'll post at least 4 sets of grabs per day, maybe more.

These are not yet easy, but far more revealing ones will follow...

    Clues:

These films were made in the 1930-1955 period.
There is one adventure, one comedy, one romance, and two film noirs.

All are well known, significant movies.

Damn, Janke it's like you have these ready to go. I can barely find a movie to do one game...

I do have a huge collection of recorded DVDs, in addition to about 100 bought ones...

Here's a new set, and now there should be some recognizable faces among them. Next set coming tomorrow morning, EU time.

I'm going to "score" like Mal did in the previous v2 - so Krute, you did score. But I won't say how well, yet.

Next set, more clues will follow, later:

I know, I know. Was just playing. I even looked up those channels (YLE Teema) to find the programming schedule and see if I can find what you recorded LOL

I don't think you can find that old Teema listings. Many of these were recorded months, even years ago...

But here are a few clues, one for each film - but not in the right order:

    - Made in 1935
    - Rudolf has this, too
    - Top of the world
    - Critics on Rotten Tomatoes give it 100%, the audience quite a bit less
    - Filmed in Beverly Hills

Keeping up the pace, here are the next grabs - with a little effort, this is now solvable, provided you recognize some well-known faces (and a back... )

100+ views, and only one guess, so far?

The grabs below are dead giveaways (even TinEye and Google can help!), so I do expect to see some results after I return after my Big Snooze...

(at this point I give up though. It's just become a rather futile, and non-pleasurable effort in googling, and I lost interest, unfortunately.)

Same here, hosting this game - obviously, there are too few players who are interested in classics. Sorry 'bout that. I'd better not host any more games like this...

Krute got the best score, 4/5.

Hopefully this will be the last set of screen grabs, with these clues (now in the correct order):

    - "Made it, Ma! Top of the world!"
    - "Lovin' you is the only decent thing I ever did in my life. And even that was a mistake. "
    - "What you been eatin', cement?"
    - "You know something? You're a pretty nice guy - for a girl."
    - "I'm very fond of children. Girl children, around eighteen and twenty. "

They certainly were tough...sort of...it didn't help that I was traveling for most of the game's duration!

Au contraire, mon ami! Nothing wrong with specifying the genre right at the start, (as I keep saying), and selecting all five films from a single class.

And the recognisable content of each screenshot made the game more appealing, imo. I think most people will play any type of game if they think they have a slight chance of winning. Making the shots more accessible helps that along, I think.

But, having said that, I have to say that I find myself lately with less enthusiasm for the games than I used to have. There are so few players participating. It's generally ~4. And yet what's the number of regular active members here on a daily basis? I'm sure it's more than 4!

Either the members of HV20 aren't particularly into games, or the majority simply don't have the time to spare. Maybe that's what discourages all those members who we never see playing.

Just a suggestion, but I think the games could be made ultra-easy, and the winner is the first one to post the name. Admittedly that would disadvantage half of the world, but only one half at a time. And we'd have a super quick turnover of new games all the time.

Well, we're just about starting game #406.

Even if we never play anymore, I think we did pretty well!!

I hope you're not thinking of finishing the games altogether, Mal! I reckon that'd be a loss to the forums.

It's been great fun so far. And you've already got the best Games host any site could want, in Janke.

What do you think of my suggestion, to simplify the games so that people who don't have the time to spend hours hunting down films can have a go?

Err, that was kind of the idea with v2!!

It was that EVERYONE would recognize immediately at least one of them. This is the reason why I'm not too fond of the GENRE thing (or making them too difficult).
I prefer an eclectic bunch of movies, so there's something for everyone.
