    Default Optical Flow vs. Twixtor

    A shootout:

    Is Twixtor really $400 better?

Depends on who's paying for it...

Seems like Twixtor does away with the obvious dissolves visible in OF.

twixtor does look better, but if you want to save money, looks like OF will suffice, probably want to stay away from any close ups

Never thought I could say that, but on a PC, you could make something similar with free plugins and softwares: Avisynth and some scripts can make something that looks like that, for free.

O.F. seemed to have some major difficulty with the logo on the underside of his board in that first shot...

Draps, Optical Flow is built into FCP X and Motion (the main reason Apple bought Shake). How dos Avisynth do the frame blending and/or calculation of movement? Does it work on pixel level?

Yes, the MVTools plugin for avisynth works on the pixel level. Not only can you use it for slo-mo, but it can also be used to convert 60i & 30p to 24p.

That makes it an even more powerful tool to use!
