Thanks Janke! I really appreciate it... and wow that is an AWESOME project you've got going there! As a fully qualified freight train conductor myself (no longer in service, also due to past health issues) I just love it! I suppose that hobby competes with the photographer in you for your time, huh!

Don't let that be even a little worrying. Both still photography and film making keep one involved in "imagery". For the last three decades I've been reading in pro magazines and amatuer publications that the line between the two has been blurring more and more. Just about everything you learn in photography will transfer and apply to film making.
Vincent LaForet, the guy who launched video with DSLR "madness" into the world, was a still photographer.
Could easily be both. Maintain skills in both areas as best you can, but for now make the most of the photography learning process.
