So far I can find it for $3.50 but that was yesterday and it's going up daily.

I could be wrong, but I think a Summer of 4 dollar plus gas is not good for an Obama re-election, especially after he stalled the shale oil pipeline from Canada to the US.

If you fail to understand that, I give up.
"Forget the prebate" means forget the Fair Tax.

If you wish to discuss a DIFFERENT tax then talk about that.

The Fair Tax has a prebate. Once you "forget it" you're not talking about the Fair Tax anymore.

Under the Fair Tax people under the poverty level pay ZERO taxes.

    That's a PROGRESSIVE tax.

The more you make, the more you pay since up to the poverty level you pay ZERO taxes.

Someone buying a G6 is going to pay a hell of a lot more taxes than someone unable to afford something like that.

The price of a G6 is around 65 million dollars. You'd pay about 15 million dollars on that under the Fair Tax.

    How is that not "fair"?

how much do you need to take from teh rich until you're satisfied it's "fair"?

How about we concentrate on how much our government is wasting, and getting good value for our money, instead of taxing the rich until we feel like we've taken enough from them?

The bottom line is under the Fair Tax, those making under the poverty level PAY ZERO TAXES!!!!!!
    That is progressive!

You can buy a Prius for about 25k, or you can buy any one of these:

    http://www.automedia.com/New_Cars/MS...FQNeTAod0zvfTQ

for 15k and have 10k left over to spend on gas.

If we apply that 10k to the difference in gas mileage, I'm not sure you come out ahead buying a Prius.

Certainly it will feel better at the pump, but will hurt more at the dealership.

$1.24/litre. That's for Regular Grade fuel though. Since I travel a lot every day, every week, I burn Premium Grade in my truck for better mileage. In other words, I'm spending $0.10 more ($1.34) per litre... Or about $150 in gas per week, providing I don't go traveling farther... Tomorrow I'm filling up, as Thursdays are $0.03 off on Premium.
My skills are vast, rendering me capable of too many things.

My Peugeot 205 Diesel made already about 60 mpg some 20 years ago. Those hybrids have even a negative ecological balance. They do more harm than good.

You can take bus or ride bite too. That left you all the money for food.

I was in the market for a new car. Gas mileage was one of my considerations, but not the only.

Not fun standing at a bus stop in -35 temperatures.

Speaking of Winter.... fuel mileage takes a REAL nosedive too. In the Summer I get about 600Km to a tank of gas. In the Winter that drops down to about 350Km. It costs almost twice as much.

Not really. No decent schedule bus where I live, and Summer is 95 degrees, about 35 celcius. Average commute is 10-20 miles, plus other basic travel needs like grocery store, etc.

Doing that three or four times a day in a suit isn't feasible. Maybe if you're Lance Armstrong or something.

Actually there is a bus, but it only runs about once every 2 hours, and drops you off two or three miles from most places you might need to go, so again not really feasible especially if you actually need to be somewhere on time.

The bus route already LOSES a great deal of money, so there is no budget for more busses, more bus stops etc., and really it would just be an enormous waste of fuel and money.

If you live in a big city like Boston, public transportation makes sense, but doesn't work in low density areas like where I live.

Can't you all tell the bus comment was not serious? It's just about your personal choice. I choose to buy a Prius because I like the car. It's not just the gas mileage why I bought a new Prius (http://www.hv20.com/showthread.php?4...-Electric-Cars). To tell me I can buy a cheap used car, then save the money for gas, I suggest why don't take bus.

    It's about choice.

If you're talking about the list I posted, it was all brand new cars for 15k or less, not used cars.

    Brand new Prius is 25k.

The cars on the list all have as much room or more than a Prius, and get around 35 mpg.

If you like the Prius, sure, buy whatever kind of car you like. I'm just saying all of these cars brand new are under 15K:

    http://www.automedia.com/New_Cars/MS...FQNeTAod0zvfTQ

I don't think I'd like the Prius for 10K more than any of these, except for the Smart4two car. I'd take a Prius over that.

Yeah I was referring to your link. Once again, I bought a Prius because I like the car overall. Gas mileage is one of the things I consider, but NOT the only factor. I supposed you will ask why people buy a Jaguar or convertible because on your list cars have more room?

People all have their own preferences. If you don't like a Prius then don't buy one

The other factor being, trying to encourage auto makers to be smarter?

You mean making cars that people will buy, that give them a large profit?

Of course, all manufacturers are trying to do that.

got gas yesterday and it's still under 3 bucks a gallon.

buy a prius because you like it? doesn't say much about your taste in cars.

i thought the fair tax was still based as a consumer tax on new goods and services. i remember right, there was no fair tax on used cars or houses or other used items, only new consumer items.

Is this all due to a difference in tax rates? CA taxing most, WY least?
