Default Game #393 - Marathon Man

    Game #393
    Game version 1
    One picture from one movie:

    Rule 1:
NO IMAGE HOSTING ON EXTERNAL SERVERS.
Images for the games need to be ATTACHED to the post, and thus uploaded to our server.

    Rule 2:
TWO GUESSES PER PERSON PER POSTED PICTURE!!! Those two guesses are not allowed to be in the same post, NOR in a consecutive post. I.e. you can post one guess, then have to wait for someone else to guess: your second guess is not allowed to be immediately following your first guess.

    Rule 3:
The WINNER of the game can start a new game IN A NEW THREAD.
NO ONE ELSE (unless yielded so by the winner).

    Rule 4:
Once there's a winner, PLEASE post the correct name into the thread (spelled correctly, and capitalized correctly, and not in italics or bold face.)

    Rule 5:
The correct title format is: "Game" / space / "#" / number.
    Example: " Game #12" (without the ")
(no space between the # sign and the number!)

    Rule 6:
The film selected should be one that has had an international, theatrical release.
I.e. a made-for-TV movie only shown in the USA would hardly be a fair entry, as
    we have international players also.

    Rule 7:
These complete rules (1 to 7) have to be copy & pasted into each new game's first post.

I'm going to try to spice up this game by introducing the film and giving a few personal comments, right from the get-go.

This one is a thriller written by a guy with a long run of major successes to his name. Goes from one hit to another. His name in the credits is always gold. Man can't put a foot wrong. I reckon he is the quintessential screenwriter, nothing he can't handle.

This is one of his best-known works.

Hmmm. I can't quite tell if Krute is being facetious or not.

No, that was a different guy...

And this is an English-language film.

Time to step up the pace a little.

    Not French Connection 2.

Everything in that intro is true. Some of it is more true than first appears.....

And since you've all been waiting all night, here's a bonus frame. This one will tell you something.

    CORRECT! It is "Marathon Man".

I have to know, Mal. What gave it to you? The intro?

And the repeated references to running, pace, racing?

Or did you just know it from the frames?

    HOLY CRAPPOLA!!!!!!

I totally guessed from THIN AIR. I was going to follow my guess with a: "I know this is wrong, but it's all I have."

I kind of knew the age was right. The explosion DIDn'T ring a bell AT ALL. And the two guys walking: doesn't really look like EITHER OF THEM is Hoffman.

    hahha....

Well, all I can say is: IS IT SAFE?????

Oh, and BTW, although I find them fascinating, I NEVER get neither your nor Janke's clues! EVER!

LOL!! No, it's not safe. It's very dangerous. You should be careful...". That is, we should be careful, because you obviously have a sixth sense there, Mal.

I'll admit, you have to be a tad devious to get them. With Janke's clues, you have to be downright devilishly clever!

Great movie. I didn't recognize any of those shots, and I obviously didn't pick up on your intro hints. Something about it seemed wonky, but it never crossed my mind to sift for clues. Well done.

Heh, thanks, Ugarte. I'm going to add an intro to all my games from now on, (if I get any). I've been thinking that part of the reason there are usually so few players may be because most of the games give the players absolutely nothing to go on, right at the start. I think a lot more people would have a go if they at least were given a hint about where to start looking. Not a clue, per se, but a hint. There are about eleventy million movies out there, after all. And if the hint can contain a hidden clue as well, so much the better.

In charades, for example, the player always has to indicate something about the charade, such as its category and number of words etc., to get people started.

I know a google search with specific terms will net millions of answers, but that can also be a drawback.

On looking through the images again, I think I simply "felt" Marathon Man from this one:

Yep, it's a dicey shot, that one. I thought it was a bit risky posting it. Kept asking myself, is it safe?
