You are ignorant to apple's true market, which is the "post-PC" foolish game-enamored market of the ipad. The type of people who think that "productivity" is defined by how many emails you can answer per hour.
the only community that cares about emails answered per hour is big business in the hands of old dell optiplexs running windows, customer service and tech support call centers that only need mail and word processing. has nothing to do with apple. to me, productivity is getting things done. been to NAMM or NAB recently. the iPad is one of the biggest tools to be adapted to make people in real audio and video business more productive. even avid is using the iPad as an efficient video editing solution to tie in with MC. seems the "market" is anyone that is interested in productivity.

About my personal opinions and loud-mouthed rambling? Yeah, I like to try and expose myself to differing cultures and customs. I'm not a freakshow, I'm a pretty normal looking person, but I think that apple is branded more to the higher-end market and enemy of the state...white businessmen. Nothing better than combining pure hate, jealousy, and judgement with racial undertones. If I offend anyone that's just the icing to the cake!
expose yourself to differing "cultures and customs" how quaint. all you sound like to me is some well off white boy that thinks eating mexican food and indian food makes you multicultural, and going to a gay club or a black club makes you relate better with other "customs and cultures"
i see you as the kind of uppity white guy that thinks when he drives through bulkhead during freaknik, you are somehow getting black culture, even though your windows are rolled up and the doors are locked. you talk about apple and the perceived image of what you think apple users are like, but it sounds thats more what you are like.

If I didn't offend, I'm glad that I provided a source of laughter! However, for those of us with our sanity in-tact and our REALITY in-tact, apple is the very definition of "image" and "con-artistry" in America and it's devilish influence in the rest of world which is already full of vulnerable gullible people! It's no wonder apple is targeting the desperate cultures of the world!
let me guess. you are the angry type because you invested in microsoft thinking the Zune or the Kin was going to break it big. So your hate of apple is jealousy of success. you can't handle it that you didn't get in when you had the chance.

Your foolish vulnerable thought-process seems to confuse "adobe" with "apple". Maybe your insiduous memories of working on photoshop on a mac have transcended your logic. Sorry to break it to you, but photoshop is also on PC.
wow, photoshop works in windows? you know, you must be confused. The only "mac" program i used at the time back in the day was aldus pagemaker, i've used windows forever, and photoshop in windows forever.
Now, i use the tool that works for the job. windows, OSX, it doesn't matter.
but, you convince yourself of whatever you imagine. go immerse yourself in "culture and customs" and tell yourself you are actually learning diversity or whatever it is you think you are doing.

so are you moving to denver? you might want to go live in boulder, because you won't find your "culture and customs" in denver, you'll just find people. people that don't have to prove themselves in any way, although they try real hard to convince everyone that they are actually in colorado.

I've done video for WIPRO. Just to educate you, WIPRO is an indian based IT firm that handles a lot of the IT for CVS pharmacy. Just to clear you ignorance even more, here in the U.S., MOST of the ENTIRE population in the U.S. lives within 1 MILE of a CVS pharmacy (not exact but very close, you get the point). WIPRO engineers the pharmacy management system of several thousands of stores.

I sat and videod several days of video on a company that does hundreds of millions in dollars in contacts and nobody gave a flying lalalala about macintosh... I'm also very active in the IT tech community and nobody cares about macs in the real world of IT. It's actually a good way to getting YOUR ASS FIRED or RUINING YOUR REPUTATION BY showing such STUPID AMATEUR CHILDISH thoughts that you have perpetuated over this forum... like a pile of lalalala that stinks up the whole neighborhood, just because you were too intellectually lazy to filter your thoughts....

WIPRO's U.S. headquarters is in Atlanta, and I'm their sole videographer for training. They basically run the entire pharmacy management system which is several THOUSAND CVS stores maybe even HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS... they hire ME, because I am the best. Not only that, but I am probably the NUMBER ONE Indian cultural videogrpaher in Atlanta and most definitely Denver.

I am paid $3-6K per Indian event. Nope, I don't make as much as a doctor or wall-street person, but I'm self-employed and hired exclusively on my skill. Yes I'm white boy, but i'm definitely more open minded and a quicker learner about outside cultures than most Americans. I'm definitely not into the vanilla stuff.

Well I believe that competition benefits the consumer and that there's little enough choice as there is. I also think that microsoft makes third-rate products. so I have mixed feelings about it going 'tits up.' Maybe if a Linux variety were to step up and fill the gap, it would be OK?

well, here.... you see a bunch of people using android tablets trying to prove something, and a lot of people using an iPad for real productivity. Moog, Korg, and several companies have realized that the future of music is big in the iPad. even behringer this year at NAMM introduced a mixing board with a spot for the iPad.

    http://www.behringer.com/news/

anyone that doesn't see the use, is either working in the corporate world where all they do is answer emails, make spreadsheets, and answer phones.
music, video and a lot of other industries are taking a big interest in tablets.

Avid Studio is a big jump on the iPad, seeing the dinosaur make an app that allows editing and ties in with MC is a huge jump.
i use mine as a stomp box and a digital processor.

many synths now offer docks or digital input through the iPad to offer more flexibility and control.
two years ago, control surfaces for audio were a couple of thousand dollars. the iPad came along and made control surfaces affordable. Korg, Moog, Camel and other companies get it, and are now offering iPad solutions.

i'm sure there are some people that buy iPads just to look cool. but the same could be said about people buying three series BMW's and other things.

heck, people even move to denver so they can talk about how "cool" they are to live in colorado.

The Macintosh? It has nothing to do the Mac. Just to "educate you" and to "clear you ignorance even more"

that says it all. translates to i've worked in call centers and data centers setting up dell optiplex computers and microsoft office for people to use.
in all honesty, no one really cares about the world of IT except for the people that work in the field. to everyone else, all IT people are is fat kids that live in their mama's basement and don't have any social skills outside of in game chat.

iPads are pretty simple to embed into a Windows Server environment, so we will live with Windows for quite a while.

You may well be right. But it seems to me that microsoft has only two cash products; windows and office. Any threat to either must surely be a problem. Lets face it, it's been stagnant for a decade because of its failure to diversify and keep up with market trends. If Ballmer isn't concerned about the post-PC era and plans to carry on sitting on hands, maybe the company needs a new CEO?

i hope windows stays around quite a while. i have no problem with windows, use it almost daily. works fine. does what i need. i use several VST racks that work great in windows, although they get a little weird when you use hyper threading or have multiple cup's.
and without windows, we wouldn't have pc games. where would we be without call of duty and battlefield. gaming sucks on OSX.

It's looking like a certainty that MS will go from flat to negative growth, this will, of course, drive its value down. Once this happens it'll be a target for a buy out.

This happened to Nissan (1999). When its value nose dived, Renault was able to scoop it up a bargain-basement price and turn it around, with the help of Carlos Ghosn, of course.

Let's just hope it won't be Google to buy out MS.

Gaming? I don't have any beef in that soup, but even there seems to be the trend that moves to tablets slowly.

I have the feeling that it is a bit late to diversify, and, besides the X-Box, they haven't been too successful in diversification. If their Mobile Windows (or whatever they call it) with Nokia will work out? I doubt it. Nokia is the wrong partner. The others are already in bed with Android.

I don't know if Ballmer is the wrong CEO. At least, he's amusing (to a point - somewhen, it's just getting embarrising)

Well, they'd have enough cash on hand for a 30% downpayment, but I highly doubt it. OTOH, before Google bites, they might.

You only need a majority stake to have a controlling interest. Of course the lower the value of MS gets, the more players you'll have. It could even be Larry Ellison that gets it.

I don't get the pads. Laptops are really thin and lite these days. Why would I not want a full keyboard?

    Anyway, here's an interesting article:
    http://www.reuters.com/article/2012/...82706220120308

Windows 8 will be able to run on pads. So, you can use your pad for whatever people use pads for, but you can also do whatever you normally do at the office on your pad if you want to.

I know, Apple has an equivalent for most software packages that are windows based. But my office environment is windows only, doesn't run on a Mac. For example we have proprietary encryption software that has to be installed on all laptops. Windows only, no Macs. So windows 8 will be handy for that sort of scenario, if you really want a pad. Again, I'd prefer a full on laptop, really they aren't much heavier than pads.

If you're just listening to mp3's, checking your facebook page, and looking at youtube videos of cats, playing angry birds, downloading apps to find a sushi restaurant, any pad will do so of course you don't need Windows 8.

PC gaming is all about mouse and keyboard.

There's no aimbots in first person shooters like you need with a console controller, and the mouse is the most accurate pointing device on a computer screen. Also really handy to use mouse and keyboard for RTS games that require fast selection of large numbers of units.

I know you can hook up a keyboard and mouse to a pad, but I think it kind of defeats the purpose of having a pad?

This is exactly what the average computer user is doing, and that is why tablets grow, while desktop sales go down.

Microsoft's main problem is that it's basically a one-trick pony. If Windows 8 won't succeed, MS is basically toast.

... and from the presentation I have seen on Windows 8, it is still desktop/mouse centric (assuming there is no difference between desktop and tablet versions). The mouse is a relict of the 60's. If you want to produce an OS that gives the same experience on the tablet/phone as on the desktop, you have to say good bye to the mouse.
OS X Lion e.g. shines with a trackpad. The designer soap bar mouse sucks with Lion. It does all the gestures and stuff, but is not as quick and easy as the trackpad. I was skeptical, at first, about the iOS likeness, but meanwhile I like it. MS should look into that. As it is now, Windows 8 looks clumsy to me.

I've never heard so much batcrap in my life! This conversation has to be about the STUPIDEST one i've heard yet!

Tablets won't be replacing desktop type machines ANY TIME SOON... and the SAME goes with trackpads replacing mice. You spend five minutes talking to a secretary about arm/wrist issues and you'll understand what I'm saying (part of my job includes keeping the Winnipeg Child And Family Services secretarial pool happy and comfortable at their desks). Sure... we've trying track balls... track pads.... touch screens... ergonomic keyboards... and a WHOLE HOST of other little tricks and I would say about 98% of them return to the good ole mouse. It's got high sensitivity, high precision... and with a properly adjusted and set-up mouse, the ONLY things that are moving are your fingers and wrists.... and in a 40 hour work week... anything other is EXTREMELY noticeable.

Heck... I remember the experiment we tried with a couple of touch screens.... didn't even last 8 hours... they packed it in by lunch time.... ALL complaining of sore arms.

But hey... don't believe me. Go ahead... try typing for 8 hours on your toyish little tablet... let me know which massage parlor you plan on calling afterwards.

    LOL... what a friggin joke!
