Default Alternative for Canon supplied stylus pen

I belong to the rare breed of people that read the manual before using new equipment. So, after receiving my Legria (Vixia) HF M41 I did study the manual thoroughly and I think I'm ready to start shooting. One thing, however, puzzled me. Canon wrote:

Handle the touch screen with care. Do not apply excessive force and, with the exception of the supplied stylus pen, do not use ballpoint pens or other hard-tipped tools to operate the touch screen. This may damage the touch screen's surface or the pressure-sensitive layer beneath it.
Of course, I wouldn't use sharp, pointed tools but there must be other stylus type tools beside this minuscule (40 mm long) object supplied by Canon, that I'm prone to loose anyway. TIA for any tip from other touch screen users!

Check your local electronics store if they still have stylii for PDA.
An office store might have a ballpen stylus hybrid.
A cut off plastic knitting needle (far a nice, romantic dinner your wife might give you one of hers)
A modelrailway uncoupler for NMRA couplers.

I could use my sausage fingers with the Sony A1...

Thanks for the tips, cgbier! A longer ballpoint size stylus pen with a clip would indeed be more practical than the Canon paperclip sized one. A longer one would f.i. allow me to reach inside a LCD screen hood.

I need a backup or two for the little stylus supplied with the HF-G10 as well. It is good practice to have spares.

I lived in Tilburg for three years, and after all, it's just another German dialect.

I picked up 3 for $1.50 shipped, and they're retractable (Retracted about 57 mm; Extended about 95 mm)

The stylus for the Cect phones, like the M88 is collapsible and will work fine. I just learned to use my little finger.
