Excellent. Well done Nikon. Put the pressure on those bastards at Canon for more full frame beauties.

The D4 is actually not that interesting for me, but Nikon will trickle down the intestines of the D4 to the upcoming D800.... half the price

The more full frame video cameras out there the better, but 6k is kinda pricy. Will have to see tests on moire, aliasing, jello, low light, etc. to know if it's a good deal for shooting video.

... or a Kona card, an XDCam recorder, or ... the same as with any other HDMI output.

I haven't looked into it, but wouldn't you need 2 HDMI ports.... one to monitor and one going into the recorder?

If you're shooting video, 6K will buy you a Sony FS100 with no moire, no aliasing, XLR inputs, way better handling, monitoring, a great viewfinder, ...

The D4 is for photographers who want an alternative to Canon's 1D.

And that's about the crux of it. This is for hardworking pro's who are shooting volumes daily. The fact that it has video means that that function will be utilised for news gathering by some, but let's not forget that this is primarily a photojournalist's tool.

I'm inclined to agree that the FS100 might be a better designed camera for shooting video. You gotta love built in viewfinder, XLR inputs, all the bells and whistles you have to find work arounds for in a DSLR.

The IQ would have to be substantially better to go with a DSLR at this price point, and I'm not sure it is, especially if you're delivering in 1080p.

    1) 100% 1st Year cost deduction on IRS Schedule C.
    2) it must pay for itself in 6 months or it's a paperweight
    3) Pros have to mitigate risk of failure and that's basically a form of insurance. The pricier cameras are usually, more rugged and more reliable, though YMMV
    4) As always, backups are critical.

A photographer friend of mine, 40+ years ago, said that the Hasselblad was the best camera you could have, but you needed three: One in use, one being serviced, a third as spare...
