Hey! Great to be here. I was recently looking for some value and quality and decided on the Canon HV40! It's nice to find this forum to help guide me through a project that is most likely way out of my realm. Anyways. I will be showing my video on the web using the free jwplayer and cloudfront with rtmp(just incase that is important). I will also be using Premiere cs5 to edit the video. My questions are.. 1. Is there pretty much an agreed upon best setting for the hv40 (i.e. HDV 30p, 24f etc) for shooting outside interviews and sports(if that is important)? 2.What are the best import settings to use with the desired camera settings as it is not always clear cut, I have even read about using a secondary program for capturing. And 3. What is the best export settings for HD web footage. Particularly for jwplayer, cloudfront and rtmp streaming. Thanks for you advice in advance and I hope to be able to help some others here soon!

1. doesn't matter as long it is (natively) progressive to save you some hassle, quality loss with de-interlacing.
2. don't use CS, so I don't know, but you'd normally capture as HDV with the framerate you shot in.
3. depends on the speed of your connection/allowed traffic. The higher the bitrate, the higher the quality, but the files get bigger too.

So stick with 24p or 30p because those are natively progressive? Thanks for the reply. I am getting the impression to stay away from the standard HDV 1080i if your doing any kind of editing.

For the web, yes. Since you're in NTSC country*, I'd stick with 1080p30 - that will edit in practically all NLEs, 24p might not.

All the interlaced formats need de-interlacing for the web. If you intend your material to be shown only on a TV set from a DVD or BluRay, then 1080i is OK.

wait a second. I thought even the 30p is still wrapped in 1080i? So I should import into PProcs5 with the 1080p30 setting and not the 1080i30 setting? This is where it gets very confusing for me.
